It wouldn't shock me one bit to find out the FISA court knew this stuff was "unverified and salacious" political opposition dirt...but ok'd it's use as a means to spy on a political opponent anyway.

I think they are dribbling out the story, to prepare the public for the upcoming IG Report, which is expected to blow the lid off of this, and include criminal referrals.
When is IG report due to be out?

They were going to spy on the Trump campaign come hell or high water.
Nellie Ohr and her Fusion GPS partners were already disseminating the Dossier all over DC and McCain took it and ran with it, straight to the FBI, that ALREADY HAD IT, so then they could say it was legit.

I wonder how much “support” Barr is really getting in his investigations. The Anti-Trump Deep State Cabal is still active and their foot soldiers in the DOJ, FBI and State are probably doing whatever they can to distract and delay Barr’s ongoing investigations. It must be enormously frustrating for him.
Its also questionable whether Horowitz (”no bias found”) and Huber (the invisible investigation) are helping him either. It will be a miracle if Barr is able to unravel 50% of the cabal’s activities. But I applaud him for trying.
Clearly the FBI like much of the dark state (DC) is an organized criminal racketeering organization. It should be assaulted using the RICO Act and destroyed by We-The-People. Any good people working therein can get another job.........

Definitely, there was information that would be required to disclose to the Court, which was not.
What has not been publicly revealed yet, is hard evidence that those individuals who assembled and signed the FISA application knew ahead of time.
“The concerns were flagged in a typed memo and in handwritten notes taken by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kathleen Kavalec on Oct. 11, 2016.”
“Kavalec, two days later and well before the FISA warrant was issued, forwarded her typed summary to other government officials. The State Department has redacted the names and agencies of everyone she alerted.
But it is almost certain the FBI knew of Steele’s contact with State and his partisan motive. That’s because former Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland says she instructed her staff to send the information they got from Steele to the bureau immediately and to cease contact with the informer because “this is about U.S. politics, and not the work of — not the business of the State Department”
