The kids may be all right after all.

In response to the United Methodist Church formally hardening its anti-gay stance, the entire 8-student confirmation class at First United Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska announced that they will not become members of the congregation right now.

The 13- and 14-year-old students announced their decision in the most public of ways: right in front of the other church members, where they read a letter they had written together.

Two observations:

1) I had though the United Methodists were pro-homo. Maybe they are but not "enough".

2) 13- and 14-year-olds? There is an adult behind this.

My own two observations:

1. Since when does the opinion of eight kids matter?

2. All eight kids were on the same page. Not even one dissenter. Somebody pressured somebody there.

“here is an adult behind this.”

At 13 and 14 they’ve had 8-9 years in the public education (indoctrination) system assuming they started at age 5 in kindergarten. That is sufficient time to mold them into good progressives.

8 kids. How will the United Methodist Church survive without them? BTW, can we please dispense with the “gay” terminology?

They should be referred to a local Unitarian, Episcopal, UCC, PCUSA, ELCA, etc., congregation, that is more in line with their thinking.

Probably not a good idea to get positive acclaim in the literally atheist press.

I am a United Methodist and their views are their views and nothing more. I can honestly say that their many young people in the church who have the opposite view. If they are uncomfortable with the church well all I can say is Bye. I wish you well and hope you find a church that you are comfortable with.

The church should decline to offer them membership unless and until they recant and confess the Christian creeds and positions. An adult or clergy should explain to them that trying to tell Jesus He’s wrong on this one when they see Him face to face probably will not go well... he’s not interested in their opinion.

Lots of good reads here:

https://juicyecumenism.com/category/sexuality-lgbt/

There are still many who “fight the good fight” within the UMC and earlier this year they scored a huge victory.

Unfortunately the Pro-LGBTQ kids thought otherwise.

And worse yet, the congregation gave them a standing ovation.

Teens at that age are great conformists, I don’t think there was any outside pressure to do this. The youngsters are in the confirmation class because their parents are churchgoers and they are the age to confirm. They get conflicting message at school, via the media, etc., and so one or two, maybe 3, decided to do what is fashionable and politically correct, and the rest of the kids went along with this. I remember when I was in youth fellowship at that age, we dared each other to do a few things we probably ought not to have done — nothing like that though, we were quite innocent. It is too bad that young people have lost their innocence, they should not be concerned about such things. I hope we can reverse the decay of our civilization, what happened in Alabama is a step in the right direction.
