5 Reasons Jon Stewart’s Rant About Congress Was Completely Ignorant
The Federalist ^ | June 13, 2019 | Christopher Jacobs

Noting that lawmakers tweeted about never forgetting the heroes of 9/11, Jon Stewart accused them of ‘callous indifference and rank hypocrisy’ for not listening to him rant.

Congress ended up in some hot water recently—and for once, lawmakers did little to cause the trouble. At a House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution hearing on legislation to reauthorize the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, television personality and hearing witness Jon Stewart went on a rant.

Noting many empty spaces on the committee dais, Stewart said, “You should be ashamed of yourselves for those that aren’t here, but you won’t be, because accountability doesn’t appear to be something that occurs in this chamber.” Noting that lawmakers tweeted about never forgetting the heroes of 9/11 on that sad anniversary, he accused them of “callous indifference and rank hypocrisy.”

Unfortunately, the reality proved far different than Stewart’s tirade would suggest. In both this specific case and in general, most members of Congress do care—not least because their voters demand that they do.

Congress had Jon Stewart testify on a multibillion dollar bill. This shows how stupid our Congressional leadership has become.

Stewart went on an ignorant, self serving rant about a bill that had no opposition and was about to pass unanimously.

On the day after the hearing, the full House Judiciary Committee approved the legislation by voice vote unanimously. No members were indifferent to the 9/11 bill, as Stewart dishonestly claimed.

He was chiding the members who couldn’t
be bothered to come to the hearing.

Don’t NYC police and firemen already have excellent health care through their employer?

Normally, I’d say ANY rant about Congress is completely justified and worthy. They are the lowest form of bottom-feeding scum-suckers on the planet. With the exception of Nunes, Meadows, Gaetz and a few others, of course.

Tell you what, if emergency responders were going to be present for a hearing, nailing my foot to the floor would not have prevented me from being there to greet them.

They provided incredible services, endured terrible scenes and literal carnage, and today they have health issues related to that service.

I would show them the utmost respect in person.

I’m not a fan of Stewart. I wouldn’t walk across the street to see him. He was right.

“He was chiding the members who couldn’t
be bothered to come to the hearing.”

Read the article.

Only 2 members who were scheduled to be there had other commitments. The bill was about to pass unanimously. There was no opposition.

Stewart was on an attention grabbing rant for the benefit of the media. Everything he said was false.

The bill was passed unanimously the next day. There was no opposition.

Stewart was on a self serving, dishonest rant. Nothing he said was true.

Besides, why would Congress want to schedule a celebrity to testify about a multibillion dollar bill. Why not get someone who might have read the bill and might understand it. Not some self important clown to make up lies and grandstand for the cameras.

It’s sad how the government didn’t acknowledge that the chemicals at Ground Zero caused this for years.

I don’t defend him being there.

He was there, and that’s fair game for criticism in it’s own right. I don’t care for celebrities being called into these things either.

If two people’s chairs were empty, then that’s two chairs too many.

Being in Congress is not just about casting decent votes. It’s also about showing recognition and support in person.

He made his high profile appeal. The bill passed. He will get the credit.

That’s how it always works.

BUT...but...but no less an expert than Hillary Clinton, as she stood outside the Church St. Post Office, told us that the air was safe.

Why bring in a self aggrandizing celebrity to grandstand before the cameras with a dishonest, self serving rant about a multibillion dollar bill he does not understand? A bill that had no opposition and was going to pass unanimously?

Jon Stewart runs in the room with a flame thrower, and leaves scorched earth everywhere he goes. It is impossible to disentangle Jon Stewart from rash ignorance and diarrhea of the mouth, yet in some circles, he is held to be the blazing and righteous White Knight, with a following that truly believes he is some kind of crusading journalist, a profession for which he has ZERO credentials.

He wasn’t even a very good comedian, yet somehow fancied himself to be the reincarnation of Groucho Marx. Groucho Marx was sort of funny at least part of the time.

“I watched the hearing.”

I can tell you watched the hearing on TV.

You are mindlessly parroting the media false narrative.
