The New Republic, which in the past few years has faded from obscurity to invisibility, has discovered what is all too obvious to even the casual observer of politics. Namely that some polls are, get this, inaccurate. The one who went on this voyage of discovery to tell us what we already knew is staff writer of long political experience, Walter Shapiro. And since Shapiro has worked as a standup comedian (Laugh Factory?) he does provide us with some chuckles at the expense of the news media which has demonstrated an absurd dependence on polling despite the fact polls have become even more inaccurate than they were in the past.
Shapiro revealed on June 21 that despite the media often worshiping polls as their sacred talisman that "The Polling Industry Is in Crisis."

And bears actually do $hit in the woods!
At least someone is publicly admitting it.
Ping.
Only if that comes from an unnamed source close to the president. ;)
Election polling has always been a mess, even when (moderately) successful. With people the way they are nowadays — with all the “signaling” (my generation calls it “lying”) — there’s no way any poll should be believed without a closer look.
A poll is a tool that can give useful information.
But, and this is a big BUT, when a poll is doctored to show a desired result, it is all but worthless.
How many of the pre election polls in 2016 showed Hillary in the lead, some by double digit margins? How many of those polls had a skewed set of respondents, in which liberal/Democrat leaning voters were over sampled, thus producing a comfortable lead for Hillary?
And what of the motivations of pollsters? If pollsters want to produce a poll showing a certain result, which in turn will drive political debate, they can do so.
How many of you believe that recent Quinipee-ac(sp?) poll, which showed Biden ahead of Trump, 53 to 40%? Was that poll produced to show that , #1 Biden is a clear front runner, and #2 show how unpopular Trump is, thus driving discussion on cable news shows????
The ancient Israelites got into trouble worshiping poles..............
Bottom line is the knows the polls are false and it doesnt care. The junk polls serve their purpose.
* They push a narrative.
* They encourage candidates to spend campaign money on ads.
* They are a cheap and lazy way to write about a campaign as a horse race .
Always.. ALWAYS! .. lie to pollsters.
Regardless of the actual data collected, the algorithm was designed from the ground up to produce a desired, biased result. Same design in Anthropogenic Climate Change data processing. Statistics can be twisted so they play “Mary Had a Little Lamb” when opened on a computer.
