Bank of America will end its association with companies that provide prisoner and immigrant detention services at both the state and federal levels. The move comes amid growing public concern about the nation's border policies.
A spokesperson said Wednesday that Bank of America (BAC) has discussed the issue with its clients that provide those services. While the bank appreciates "steps they have taken to properly execute their contractual and humanitarian responsibilities," it ultimately decided to "exit the relationships."
"Lacking further legal and policy clarity, and in recognition of the concerns of our employees and stakeholders in the communities we serve, it is our intention to exit these relationships," the spokesperson said.
The Miami Herald previously reported that Bank of America was a financier of Caliburn which the newspaper said runs a facility called Homestead under a US government contract. The Herald said the bank provided a $380 million loan to the company and a $75 million credit line. The paper indicated Homestead is not a prison, but "protesters say it functions as one. The minors held inside are not allowed to leave."

They surely want to make lifer harder and more difficult for illegals. Instead of insuring these immigrants have food and shelter, they would rather see companies that provide these services CLOSED and SHUT DOWN. If it were not for the US Government and companies like Caliburn - the death toll would be off the charts as the tens of thousands of immigrants would be dying in the deserts and starving in the cities. They obviously want to see Concentration Camp conditions like AOC said there were.
What next? Going after Catholic Charities and even personal individuals that give aid and comfort to immigrants?
Does that include CHINA?....................
IF YOU DONT IKE IT CREATE YOUR OWN BANKING SYSTEM!!
They should go after Catholic charities. Catholic charities have made a business for decades out of getting govt money for taking in illegals, and getting more money for taking in more illegals. They are part of the incentive.
Sounds like B of A needs a sudden visit from the bank regulators. This is a war. The left needs to start taking casualties, as well.
Right. Let them leave. Let an unaccompanied child leave. To do what? To go where? Be picked up to work the streets?
Damn! I hate idiot liberal thinking!
quit boa a LONG time ago.
Bank of WHAT? America?
More like Bank of Anti-America.
Maybe they should change their name to BOMexico.
Time to close my account with BofA.
This is really getting out of hand. The very notion of corporations using their roles in our society to influence policy and politics is a pretty friggin’ scary turn of events. I’m sure it’s been happening in one way or another for years, but now it’s in our face, whether it be Bank of America, Google, Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook or...
Exactly. It was the damn Lutherans and other do-gooders that brought Somalis to Minnesota.
Catholics are doing the same with Mexicans, El Savadorans, Africans, etc.
But they’ll do business with drug, and human traffickers no doubt.
B of A should be banned from participation in ANY Federal contracts then.
Insanity. Overthrow of our country.
It really is getting out of hand. Are you a conservative that banks with BOA?
What will you do when they close your account like Twitter, YouTube and Facebook have done?
Next up: Insurance companies canceling you for your right wing views.
Then: Your electricity and water are cut off. Why? Because you voted for Orange Man.
Think I’m on the wrong slippery slope? I say we are the proverbial frog in the water.
There will be many more discussed with plan than pleased with the BoA’s move. F’m
Have an account with BAC....with $10 in it.
So I am sure that some Fed Gubment agency runs the contracts for the lil’ tykes...so they will stop doing bus with the feds’?
