Special Gun Session Adjourned By Virginia Lawmakers After Just Two Hours
Daily Caller ^ | July 9, 2019 | Whitney Tipton

Virginia Republican lawmakers rejected Democrats’ request to debate a series of gun control measures, voting to adjourn Tuesday’s special session after only two hours.

Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam had summoned legislators to the special session to consider eight gun control measures he proposed in the wake of the Virginia Beach shooting, according to the Associated Press.

“I called legislators back to Richmond for this special session so we could take immediate action to address the gun violence emergency that takes more than a thousand Virginians’ lives each year. I expected lawmakers to take this seriously,” Northam said in a statement.

“It is shameful and disappointing that Republicans in the General Assembly refuse to do their jobs, and take immediate action to save lives. I expected better of them. Virginians expect better of them,” he added.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Less than two hours after beginning a special session called in response to a mass shooting, Virginia lawmakers abruptly adjourned https://t.co/5ezBLkjD16 — WVVA News (@WVVA) July 9, 2019

Tuesday’s special session started with Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment disavowing his own recent proposal to ban guns in public buildings after facing backlash from fellow Republicans, including the resignation of Sen. Bill Stanley, his majority whip.

During the abbreviated session, Northam stood outside the Capitol building protesting with gun-control supporters, who chanted “Enough is Enough!”

“The whole thing is just an election-year stunt,” said Republican House Speaker Kirk Cox, who added that the session was scheduled prematurely given the shooting investigation is still underway.

Republicans hold a slim majority in the Virginia Assembly, with a 20-19 advantage in the Senate, and a 51-49 lead in the House.

13 people were killed June 1 when DeWayne Craddock, 40, a Virginia Beach city employee armed with a .45-caliber handgun, opened fire on coworkers in a municipal building.

Yes, we need gun control.... for demoKKKrats. They are the ones committing the vast majority of gun crimes, including the recent mass murder in Virginia Beach. Did I mention it happened in a city building which is a gun-free zone.

Virginia has a small window of breathing room as a free state until the Democrats take the legislature.
They probably will take one or both houses this November.
The districts were re-drawn by a UC Irvine professor at a courts direction.

Planning my escape.

Proving that banning guns from public buildings only makes people sitting ducks.
One of the deceased was a concealed weapons permit holder, she wanted to take her gun but followed the policy, to her and others detriment.

“the gun violence emergency that takes more than a thousand Virginians’ lives each year.” ?!?

THOUSANDS OF VIRGINIANS’ LIVES EACH YEAR???

I no idea the death toll in Virginia was so high as a result of gun violence! Damn!!!

Chicago can relax now, they’re no longer the galaxy’s leader in gun violence deaths.

Gun crime prevention:

Eliminate "gun free zones".

Ensure BLIND JUSTICE when prosecuting and sentencing criminals.

Encourage training and remove barriers for those seeking concealed carry.

I love South Carolina, but on my last visit I saw the results of having all of your Republican Congressional delegation being Cheap Labor Express stooges.
The place is as overrun with fraudulently documented foreigners as Virginia.
Even in the mountains, which kind of surprised me, that’s the one place in Virginia I can go to get away from them.

They are counting the perps who get shot committing crimes by concealed carry holders.
Virginia currently has good gun laws.
Shall issue state.

Not so fast you black-faced minstrel clown. I'm a Virginian and I expect my Delegates to protect my Second Amendment rights.

The first thing I would demand of these gun control idiots is to point out to us one additional law that would have changed this.

Murder - against the law.
Weapon in a municipal building - probably against the law there.
Weapon ownership - Don't know if this guy could own legally - but apparently he didn't care if not.

WHAT WOULD HAVE CHANGED THE OUTCOME (aside from someone in the building being armed themselves)?

They always include self-defense and police shootings into their numbers. Who cares about the details? They were killed with a firearm. The reason does not matter.

Life is great in the Palmetto state.

Come on down. Yep, there are tons of northerners (including a few of us Virginians) here in my neighborhood.

I'm just below Charlotte. Between the escapees from Charlotte and other similar blue blights on the Republic, it reminds me of the population explosion in northern Va over the past 40 years. I'm hoping they leave their left wing ideology up north.

The GOP politics are pretty strange down here. Haven't quite figured out what is going on, and it appears the local political GOP party is disorganized and pretty inept.

Simple Solution, project exile! Studies show that the majority of gun crimes are committed by career criminals. Law abiding citizens are not the problem, the criminals are. Simply reinstate Project Exile program. Mandatory 5-year prison sentence for any person caught in possession of or using a firearm in a criminal activity. This was done and resulted in a huge reduction of crime. Bring it back.

Different case and seems to have no effect her.
Our election is being run by the UC Irvine professor’s maps.
Guess who they favor?

Have to disagree with you. Project Exile disenfranchises too many demoKKKrat voters. This law is raccisstt! /sarc

My sister and her husband are out of there come next summer. They lived in Minnesota for several years after he graduated medical school and finally said enough when MN instituted a special tax on doctors only.

Now Virginia is turning into MN east, so they just bought a small farm in East Tennessee and as soon as their son graduates high school they are out of VA.

If it falls in line with the USA BS numbers, then 67% are suicide (still lower than Japan, France and Iceland), 18% are self defense (police, security, citizens) and 13% of the last 15% would be illegal and gang violence in cities where gun laws are very strict. So when they compare to Europe’s numbers, remember that 98% of our numbers are BS. Which would be about 20-30 lives per year in VA. Far more die from fists, bats and falling down steps.
