Howie Carr: Ted Kennedy never grasped magnitude of Chappaquiddick (50-Year anniversary alert)
Boston Herald ^ | July 16, 2019 | Howie Carr

Posted on 07/17/2019 8:46:50 AM PDT by Zakeet

Ted Kennedy might have become president - Richard Nixon certainly thought the runt of the litter was going to be the Democrat nominee against him in 1972.

But the Kennedys' dreams of a restoration of "Camelot" were shattered 50 years ago this week, as Teddy's mother's 1967 Delmont 88 Oldsmobile plunged off a small bridge on Chappaquiddick Island into a tidal pond, drowning Mary Jo Kopechne.

Teddy killed the 28-year-old "girl," as he called her, and he was allowed to plead guilty to ... leaving the scene of an accident.

Not vehicular homicide, or drunk driving, or reckless driving, or driving without a license. How Kennedy was it? Just like his nephew, Joe Kennedy II, four years later turning over a Jeep on Nantucket and putting a 21-year-old woman in a wheelchair for life - young Joe was fined $100.

That's Kennedy justice in Massachusetts. In the halls of justice, the only justice is in the halls.

[Snip]

"You watch," Nixon told his aides in April 1971. "I predict something more is going to happen … I mean, it’s just a matter of judgment. I mean, he’s just gonna ... ."

Get drunk again. Nixon didn't even have to finish the sentence. For the rest of his life, Teddy never got the memo: Drinkin’ doubles don’t make a party. What made Milwaukee famous made a loser out of him.

He tried to run for president once, in 1980, but he couldn’t even come up with a coherent answer when an obsequious TV interviewer asked him why he wanted to follow in his brother’s footsteps. Teddy obviously hadn't thought about much of anything beyond his next drink since ... Chappaquiddick.

Holy moley. In his later years, Ted resembled a beached whale. Ted on the beach may have been misidentified .

JFK, Jr was their best hope.

Fate intervened and gave us Hillary.

Thank goodness fate intervened again with Trump

‘The media was completely corrupt back then. It has only gotten worse

Absolutely true. And Walter Cronkite’s lies led to many thousands of American young men suffering and dying needlessly in Vietnam.

This cancer in America has spread and strengthened. ENEMEDIA.

The sad thing is, a younger Kennedy outdid his rotten deed -JFK Jr. killed his wife and sister-in-law, and he wasn’t even drunk.

My Dad told a story of being in the lobby of one of the fancy hotels on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston (a *very* fancy part of the city) and seeing Old Man Kennedy (the Ambassador that Churchill kicked out of London) getting into an elevator and then,a few minutes later, seeing Gloria Swanson walk in and get into the same elevator.

Translation...the Kennedy males are filthy, depraved, amoral pigs and they learned it from the Old Man.

Esther Newberg used to be Don Imus’ agent.

He called her `Lobster’ Newberg on his show (the dish is spelled Newburg).

True story it’s in a non-worshiping Kennedy biography: Joe took his wife & Gloria Swanson on a cruise. Same cruise! Swanson suite on one side of the boat, the wife on the other. Old Joe sprinting back & forth!

Mary Jo didn’t drown, she suffocated. And THAT was covered up, too. I saw the diver who brought her up interviewed. He was livid that the drowning story prevailed. Kennedy knew the magnitude of his criminal activity, he really didn’t care. The Kennedys never cared who was collateral damage in their political aspirations.

Well, his papa was an incompetent PT Boat commander who managed to get his little craft cut in two by a Japanese destroyer. Yet, courtesy of Cliff Robertson and some creative screen writing, this son of a corrupt Wall Street manipulator and whiskey smuggler became an heroic icon of naval skill. It only seems natural that his little boy grew up to be an equally incompetent airplane pilot, ending up in the drink (pun intended) like Daddy and Uncle Ted.

Yes, they are amoral pigs. But I can see how some women will be overwhelmed. I used to work in Man’s Greatest Hospital in Boston. One day when I arrived at one of the elevators, there was Joe Kennedy, Jr. I have never been a Kennedy fan, but this guy was gorgeous. Tall, blue-eyed, tan, in a jacket, jeans and cowboy boots. Yes, I know it was all phony, but I could see where women would fall all over him, and not only because of his name. I enjoyed looking, but would have never been interested in doing any more than looking.

Oh, no, wrong. Kennedy, blasted drunk, understood within 5 seconds the magnitude of Chappaquiddik. That is why Mary Jo had to die. He probably understood the political magnitude 5 hours before she passed away.

I’m not sure he understood anything BUT the political magnitude.

If I had to choose the single most malignant politician in American history Teddy would win hands-down. For moral turpitude the abandonment of Mary Joe Kopechne is impossible to top. His legacy included John Effin’ Kerry, who might have given him a run in the malignancy sweepstakes, turning his back on Vietnam POWs as well as the country in general, corruption, and a profound and complete ignorance of the people he felt he was ruling. Howie Carr reminds us he named his last dog Splash, not that he was unaware of how that would be received but because he simply didn’t care - any crime that he successfully got away with didn’t matter.

We were married just a few days later. The summer of ‘69 is memorable for many reasons. We celebrate 50 years next week.
One of my favorite authors just wrote a book “The Summer of ‘69”. It’s fiction but she includes Teddy into the story and the moon landing.

This killer, was the first elitist that I knew of, who was saved by the Deep State.

He showed us that if one was a rich and loyal Democrat, the laws of our country did apply to him.

He was living proof that any top Democrat would never be condemned by them regardless of any crime they committed.

The Clintoons have made him look like small time.
