Dish Network Corp. has stopped carrying 22 regional sports networks owned by the Walt Disney Co. as negotiations over a new distribution contract broke down.
The channels, which went dark Friday morning on Dish and its direct-to-consumer streaming platform Sling, are the sports networks that Disney acquired in its $71.3 billion acquisition of the bulk of entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox earlier this year.
Disney is in the process of selling 21 of the regional sports networks to Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. in a deal valued at more than $10 billion. The one other channelNew Yorks YES Network, which carries Yankee baseballis being sold to group that includes the Yankees, Sinclair and Amazon.com Inc.
Disney retained an outside adviser to handle the negotiation of distribution fees paid by Dish for the sports networks programming. A spokeswoman for the networks said an offer that would have retained the current terms in a new contract was rejected.
The regional sports TV business model is broken, said Andy LeCuyer, Dish senior vice president of programming. It relies on the majority of customers subsidizing the slim minority who actually watch these channels.
Sports channels should be like a ticket to the ballpark, he said. Fans who want to watch the game should be the ones who pay for it.

Me too. The only thing I watch on the screen is Nats games. I subscribe to MLBTV and stream those games. I use a VPN so I can watch them play in real time. I don't miss TV a bit.
There may come a day they would gladly trade places with you when their paradise reveals its true colors.
Turned off the TV in 2008 when presstitutes got Erkel Mugabe elected..... life is good without TV.
Our entire West Coast family are Giant Fans.
Our joke about the really hot Giants is, “The aliens replaced the losers with winners”
The new guys are really doing great and that has a positive spin off for the older team mates,
Pablo is in another world with his offense and defense.
We use Tubi often.
WE basically only use Sling to watch the SF Giants.
For 5$ a month we get Acorn which has a lot good old Brit stuff.
By donating 5$/month to the local PBS via their site, we get a lot good older and newer stuff.
“But not without a VPN service.”
why? what happens if you don’t use a VPN?
Since the series started, I can only think of only one or two that I would want to see ‘naked and afraid’. Most look nasty when they start, and worse dirty, with bug bites all over them.
I agree, but maybe someday.
If Bell Telephone was a monopoly, what is AT&T?
They also have NCIS and the other local station here has some shows I really like.
I can get some on antenna (with some struggle) but I admit I have gotten used to DVR features you don’t get with antenna. (record, pause, rewind, etc.).
Actually it was probably with notice if you were paying attention. These pissing contests are generally very public with both the network and the cable companies sending missives to customers, making sure they know who the bad guy is. A la carte will never happen. The conglomerates won’t sell the channels to the cable companies that way, they WANT bundles, so there will BE bundles.
Anything that hurts Disney is good by me.
Dish subscribers PAY Dish for the service then we find ourselves subject to an almost endless stream of commercials from the channels they provide. 3 minutes of entertainment or news and then 3 to 4 minutes of commercial. Its a pile of crapola. I record what I want and skip over the commercials. Now I am ready to skip over Dish entirely. There used to be a limit on the number of commercial minutes per hour. Doesn't seem to be that way now. BTW Dish cut off AZ Sports here in AZ. For that they will not be forgiven.
VPN is $100 or so a year.
Bing VPN for more info.
“To hide your identity because there is a bit of grey area(illegal or not?) streaming channels online.”
thanks. that’s what i guessed ... even though ustvgo claims watching is legal:
“Is it legal to watch live stream on ustvgo.net ?”
“Watching is legal. We also do not host the streams, we collect them from public domain, on the internet and put the embed links on our website.”
I have 356 channels on my Cable box and I watch about 8 of them but I pay for all of them. The fact is they offer very little discount for pruning off those premium channels. The other scam is internet/phone bundled together They charge $19.95 for the phone but if you drop the phone you only get $10.00 discount because the charge more for internet unbundled, that makes the phone actually cost only $10.00 a month so why bother dropping it.
Getting a VPN saves you from worrying about any of those questions.
