NASA giving away Saturn 1 booster

Just in time for the 50th anniversary of NASA's Apollo 11 astronauts landing on the moon, the space agency has a very big piece of history it's looking to offload. The historic Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Alabama played a central role in developing the Saturn rockets that powered the Apollo rocket program, and apparently it had one of the earliest models just lying around after all these years. According to documents and emails obtained by CNET, MSFC "has excessed a Saturn 1 Block 1 Booster portion of a Saturn rocket stack up."

NASA Marshall Spaceflight Center in Huntsville Alabama is giving away a Saturn 1 Block 1 booster - as long as one has the $ 250,000 to haul it away

This is Block 1 , without the stabilizing fins of the later modules

The Saturn 1 was used to launch early model test capsules for the Apollo program

Wonder if could be refurbed and made flight ready again …….

Shipping and handling is a bit out of my price range.

I’ve got nowhere to store the thing.

I need one of them! Wow, my lucky day. I was watching a film from George Melies which has inspired me for a project.

That’s only five hours from here. I bet I could borrow my brother-in-law’s dualie and get it here in one piece. Make for one helluva centerpiece in the front yard.

I had heard they lost the plans. Couldn’t they have reverse engineered it from one of these leftovers?

I hope they at least looked at the designs prior to building the latest models...

“....I had heard they lost the plans.....”
Perhaps the PIAPs sold them to the communist Chinese?

That’s a myth

Have everything both on paper and microfilm

Von Braun cobbled this together using parts from his REDZSTONE and JUPITER missiles

Used 8 H2 engines from Jupiter, 8 Redstone fuel tanks for kerosene with a tank from Jupiter in center for LOX

Was called “CLUSTERS LAST STAND” by those who did not think could work

Had a 100% launch record, incliding test launches of first stage only

Remember those cars that look like Oscar Meyer weiners (hotdogs)?

Imagine what you could do with this thing!

I could put in my front yard with an attached sign that says, “Seriously, GET OFF MY LAWN!”
