74% of economists in survey see US recession by end of 2021

WASHINGTON (AP) — A strong majority, 74%, of U.S. business economists appear sufficiently concerned about the risks of some of President Donald Trump's economic policies that they expect a recession in the U.S. by the end of 2021.

The economists surveyed by the National Association for Business Economics, in a report released Monday, mostly didn't share Trump's optimistic outlook for the economy, though they generally saw recession coming later than they did in a survey taken in February. Thirty-four percent of the economists surveyed said they believe a slowing economy will tip into recession in 2021. That's up from 25% in the February survey.

An additional 38% of those polled predicted that recession will occur next year, down slightly from 42% in February. Another 2% of those polled expect a recession to begin this year.

In February, 77% of the economists expected a recession either this year, next year or in 2021.

A strong economy is key to the Republican president's 2020 re-election prospects. Consumer confidence has dropped 6.4% since July.

Trump has dismissed concerns about a recession, offering an optimistic outlook for the economy after last week's steep drop in the financial markets. He said Sunday, "I don't think we're having a recession. We're doing tremendously well. Our consumers are rich. I gave a tremendous tax cut and they're loaded up with money."

Still, Trump on Monday called on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates by at least a full percentage point "over a fairly short period of time," saying that would make the U.S. economy even better and would quickly boost the flagging global economy.

Oh wait, I thought it was already upon us.

So much for credibility.

They said it was here in 2019, but now think we’ll for sure see it by the end of 2021.

It was also a 90% chance Hillary Clinton would be president.

Right...this holds about as much water as the 97% of climate scientists’ “consensus”. Just more fiction to attempt to steer a narrative.

In the next 2.5 years. Perfectly plausible. The effort to drive one right now to sink the Trump presidency is ridiculous. They tried last December too. If it fails now they will try one more time on 2020.

The best news is that the economists have a zero success record at predicting the economy.

Your local TV weatherman could do as well.

If, by some miracle, one of the clown car brigade happen to win the 2020 Presidential election, then I’d predict about a 90% chance of recession by the end of 2021. By then, the Demo-rats will have dismantled all of the positives that President Trump has implemented over the past 2+ years.

So the press is going to create panic and fear over a recession that may happen more than two years from now to convince them President Trump’s economic policies have failed and therefore he should not be re-elected despite how well it is doing now. Talk people into believing the economy is tanking in order to cause consumer confidence to fall artificially.

The numbers are all over the place.

I could happen this year, or next, perhaps in 2021, or beyond. But, it’s gonna happen; sooner or later.

Funny how they’re predicting a recession for 2021, in an attempt to scare people from voting for Trump in 2020. Guess if they don’t vote Trump back in, that the recession of 2021 won’t happen at all.

I can predict a lot better than those economists: I predict that, as soon as a democrat party socialist is voted in (whenever), that the economy will go into deep recession or a depression. But, since everybody will have all kinds of free stuff coming their way, they won’t care abut the deep depression.

The media cannot wait for 2021 however, because the election is in 2020.

So they will go ahead and start reporting it when it’s politically useful, rather than when it actually occurs.
