Actually defuze appears to be the Arabic spelling of defuse. You are correct though that it should not be diffuse.
defuze. Verb. (third-person singular simple present defuzes, present participle defuzing, simple past and past participle defuzed) Archaic spelling of defuse.

Florida Man can be kind of a goof, but sometimes he gets it right. In this instance, it appears to be a case of "Florida Man kills Florida Man."

Some people don’t know the difference between a fuze, a fuse, and a fusee ...

Actually defuse would be incorrect: fuse is either bonding two elements together or and electrical element designed to break a circuit at an unacceptably high current.
A fuze is a detonating device for igniting the explosive fill of an artillery projectile, mortar bomb, grenade or an aircraft bomb.
To defuze those devices means to remove the fuze and render them safe.
Hence, defuze. I understand that most of you have little experience with these matters and that common usage tends to blur meanings but this is one subject I know well.

This usually ends with the abused Wife attacking the guy who protected her from her abusive Husband.
This is why Domestic Violence calls are very dangerous for Police.
To: Chainmail
While I mistaken stated it was the Arabic spelling, I really meant to type the archaic spelling. Defuze is the archaic spelling of defuse. But I'll take your word for it, though it seems they both share the same meaning, and that the spelling most commonly used in today's language is with the s not the z.
Definition of FUZE
They even use fuse and fuze seemingly interchangeably.

I live in FL and pack while doing yard work.Good call. Here in Baltimore-DC, we have to pack to visit family in the cemetery.

defuze. Verb. (third-person singular simple present defuzes, present participle defuzing, simple past and past participle defuzed) Archaic spelling of defuse.Archaic, not Arabic.
Archaic means old, like from Middle English.

No problem. Sometimes I allow myself to misread what is actually there. 8>)
To: Robert DeLong
I was an artilleryman/artillery officer for 27 years and an artillery designer for 13 years after that. I realize that the average person only rarely deals with explosive ordinance but it is a term of art.
I have defuzed everything from dud WWII bombs to antitank mines - so I sort of stick to the original spelling.

Yes I wasn’t doubting your qualifications, and I certainly have zero knowledge about bombs. 8>)
To: piasa
Another example of why "more armed citizens" is a better idea, than "no guns allowed" (resulting in only criminals having them).
The time it takes for the police to be called, and arrive on scene, would have likely resulted in this family being killed.
Good thing the armed neighbor was able to quickly intervene.
