Beijing announced the exemption plan in May and invited interested parties to apply to have certain products added to the list. A second round of applications started last week. The commission said it will continue to conduct the work of tariff exemption on US goods and will announce follow-up waiver lists at appropriate times.
The statement came as top trade negotiators from China and the United States prepare to meet in Washington next month in their latest attempt to resolve their trade war. Working level preparations for the meeting are currently under way.
China is expected to agree to buy more American agricultural products, a source familiar with the situation said.
Washington and Beijing have been engaged in a tit-for-tat tariff dispute since July last year after the worlds two largest economies failed to resolve Washingtons concerns about on alleged Chinas intellectual property theft and trade deficit.
In the latest escalation, the US will raise the tariffs on US$250 billion worth of Chinese products to 30 per cent from 25 per cent. The increase will come into effect on October 1, the day on which China will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic.
Beijing has repeatedly voiced its opposition to further tariffs but has also pledged to retaliate for any such action by the US.
In earlier talks, China insisted that a deal would be possible only if the US committed to removing the duties. Washington, meanwhile, has said the tariffs must remain in place, at least in part, as part of enforcement mechanism to ensure Beijing keeps its word on addressing its concerns.
The trade war has been damaging to both countries economies and hurt the sentiment of US companies operating in China.

and hurt the sentiment of US companies operating in China.
Aint that a shame.
Buying more agricultural products? We need more middle class manufacturing jobs, not importing more farm workers from south of the border.
Tariffs change everything.
With tariffs, China bleeds out while talks drag on.
Without tariffs, the USA bleeds out while talks drag on.
The communists are never going to honor a fair deal anyway.
Amen to that. Illegal immigration reduces productivity. Thanks to President Trump and the lack of illegal alien workers the Ag business is investing heavily in robot fruit pickers.
Buying more agricultural products?

China’s looking at some very serious problems.
The African Swine Fever that destroyed a large portion of their hog population.
The Fall Armyworm, which there’s no natural predator for in that area is also eating its way through their crop lands.
Not saying we should give slack because of that. Just mentioning it was possible motivation for their current maneuvers.
Food is in demand in every country in the world, especially the high end products. Let China buy what they need wherever and inflate prices there. Not only world population is increasing, but it is also becoming more affluent. Which is why high quality meats, bacon, olive oil, almonds, pistachios, cashews, butter, etc costs so much more now.
Meats cost more here now because of that utterly and completely dumba** bulls*** practice of turning feed corn into pretend gasoline.
That drove up the price of feedstock, as intended, which drove up the price of meat, as intended.
It never had a single damn thing to do with actual fuel production.
Why don’t they just get rid off all the tariffs? Wouldn’t that make life a lot easier for everyone?
Nailed it.
Keep bleeding (tariffs) the PRC, recover as mush of the trillions moved from our economy due trade deficits over the last 30years. We don’t want to collapse them w tariffs, just bleed, recover our lost wealth and make the CCP weak.
My Friend, you must not know a thing about feeding cattle or ethanol production.
The by product of ethanol production is distillers grain.
Fiber and protein content is higher in distillers grains than corn grain. Many distillers grains samples test between 25 and 35 percent protein.
Distillers Grain is some of the best cattle feed available, so good that you need to cut it with fiber such as ground corn cobs, hay, alfalfa, soy bean husks.
Couse I live in the heart of corn and cattle country.
