[[I guess like alcohol addiction or gambling addiction, some of us aren’t wired for drug addiction]]

Most people aren’t- to opioids anyways- the vast majority, over 98%, take them as prescribed, for the length of time prescribed, then come off them no worries-

You know the great majority of people that need pain medication, like myself are patients, not addicts. Booze kills far more people and does more harm to the human body then any prescription medication ever could and I don't see anyone clamoring for a return of the 18th. Amendment. Christ Almighty I'd sometime love to take one these ''drug warriors'' by the throat and throttle the crap out of them.

Oxycontin is simply a time release form of oxycodone a powerful narcotic pain reliever and very effective when prescribed and used properly. Oxycodone has been used for many years prior to its formulation as a time released medication.

The problem with this drug is not the manufacture Purdue pharmaceutical but physicians writing prescriptions for it in an unethical manner for money.

Physicians know full well of the dangers of this drug when used improperly. If they prescribed improperly it is on them and not Perdue pharmaceutical.

Oddly there is a place for this drug at high doses in terminal cancer patients for pain control at end stages. They will become addicted but this is of little importance as they are terminal and need pain control.

It is not a bad drug but has been abused by unethical doctors that just write the prescription for a pay day.

I once worked in home care therapy for end stage cancer victims. Some of these patients were taking huge doses of morphine for pain control. They were addicted but it was of no importance. They were going to die soon. Our therapy allowed them to be home pain free with their loving family.

Drugs are not inherently bad, even the hard narcotics. The misuse of drugs is what is bad.

I must say that OxyContin greatly helped my wife in her losing fight with lung cancer. Why must a necessary drug be hung out to dry because of abuse?

How does a government lawyer who is paid a set salary, typically lower than the private sector, and who cannot take bonuses benefit from this case?

I suspect that the government wants to remove legal opiates from the pharmacopeia so that people with intractable pain will commit suicide and die.

Much less expensive than treating pain with scripts, dr appointments, physical therapy etc

I’m in the hospital today with my wife who had cancerous tumors removed from her lung yesterday. The pain was extreme this time and it was oxy that got her through along with an IV with fentanyl.

The junkies, lawyers and idiots want to destroy a good product.

They should have just classified OxyContin as a vaccine and enjoyed their complete umbrella protection from liability.

“government lawyer who is paid a set salary”

Well ask Comey, these government lawyers seem to get money other ways. Anyway, they can make a name for themselves and get a belter job or use experience to go into the private sector. It’s so sad that there will be less litigation.

You might want to ask why people like Pelosi and Feinstein got rich after going into politics too. It’s about gaining connections.

But we need to support government lawyers. After all, unlike manufacturing, government lawyers are the backbone of our economy. They attract business to this country and encourage start ups because everyone loves regulation and likes to be sued. And if you’re lucky, you might even get a tax payer funded residence for life.

Some people are just more likely to become addicted to drugs than others.
Why is it some people can have a alcoholic drink with dinner and then stop. Others can not.
These same type of people can not just have one line of cocaine or one hit of heroin.

Nicotine, Cocaine, Oxycontin and heroin are the most addictive drugs that have ever been created. Roughly 1/3 of the people that try Oxycontin or heroin will become addicted.

This is a higher percentage than any other form of drugs.

I know two people who were in car accidents and were given Oxycontin prescriptions for neck pain. They both became addicted. It was really hard for both of them to get off the drug. These people are not junkies. They never willingly stuck a needle in their arm. They were prescribed this medicine by their doctor.

What about the FDA. They approved the drug for use.

It's a powerful drug but the pharmaceutical company did not give it to people. You're right. Doctors and hospitals gave the drug. (I'm sure the V.A. gave it out like candy)

I think you are wrong there. When they knew they were sending large quantities to small clinics, they knew something was wrong. They just accepted the money flowing in from the pill mills and turned a blind eye.

A small clinic here was finally shut down and some of the doctors jailed.

I guess like alcohol addiction or gambling addiction, some of us aren't wired for drug addiction - I only use them (sometimes half dose) when I really need them.

Yea, I knew the feeling. I don't take drugs at all - the very rare ibuprofen if I get a hangover, and that's only if I mix beer, wine, cigars, liquour, and a lot of them. So I had all four wisdom teeth removed several years ago, and they issued me a bunch of hydrocodone. Never took any of it, didn't need it at all. Fast forward to a month ago, wife had gall bladder removed and I was off work a couple days for that. So finally decided to try one of these pills, plus a muscle relaxer. I have alot of back soreness/aches, and all those pills did nothing that I could tell. So I tried one of her super-Tylenols a couple hours later. Still nothing. :/
