Alaskans Stop Grizzly Bear Charge with Glock 10mm On Elmendorf-Richardson
Ammoland ^ | October 11, 2019 | Dean Weingarten

On the evening of 18 September 2018, Anthony Reyna was happy and excited. He and his friend, Gary, were hunting moose on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson north of and sharing a boundary with Anchorage, Alaska. Tony had drawn a moose tag for a bow hunt. He was using a 60 lb PSE ThunderBolt compound bow. He has owned the bow since he was a teenager. Tony and Gary set up and started moose calling about 6 p.m. After 40 minutes, they heard a bull moving in. They saw his antlers at 30 yards. Suddenly, a second bull appeared at 15 yards! It was not as big, but Tony was hunting for meat.

Jimmy is in the lead, about five feet ahead of Tony. He has time for a startled “F*ck Bear!” as he draws the Glock from the Serpa. He has trained and practiced. The draw is smooth and fast from a retention holster. As the bear bounds over the downed spruce, Jimmy double taps, two shots, one to the chest, one to the head. The bear crashes down, 10 feet from Jimmy, dead right there (DRT). It is over in a couple of seconds.

Depends on what round you have. FMJ s are useless against bears. If you read the article you can see he used a heavy lead round specific for bears.

Look at the 480 Ruger. It’s even better.

No, I just am happier with farmed meat

If you are talking processed animals that have not been to a grower or feed lot you betcha.

There is nothing like home grown grass fed beef, taken right off the mama and butchered. It does not have all of the injections, hormones and antibiotics run through it for 3-4 months. You compare the fat, pasture raised is yellow and the processed "stuff" is pure white on beef meaning it has been subsiding purely off of grain..

And a home raised fryer....well there is nothing better if done right.

200 grain HSM Bear load. It’s in the article with a picture of the box of ammo.

I love the model 20. It’s like having a 15 round 30-30 in your pocket.

If you think you're getting anything close to .30-30 energy levels with your 10mm, you might want to read a reloading manual BEFORE you shoot any more of your reloads. (I assume you're using reloads, because factory 10mm ammo generates only about one third of the energy of an average .30-30 round... ;^)

We weren’t discussing the article of the thread.

We were discussing the bear/shotgun incident in posts 19 and 24.

Dude saved a couple lives with that unnecessary, evil gun. That poor bear just wanted a snack.

Other than availability of ammo the 10mm is to the .45 what .357 Sig is to .357 magnum only even more so

I like the 10mm....it’s a hoss

I don’t like the Glock platform but it’s only personal taste

My oldest boy loves his Tanfoglio 9mm which is I think 17+1

Cheap but it never fails and will cycle crap ammo even

CZ copy I think

Me I’d likely opt Remington just because it’s a 1911 frame or the Kimber...same reason

Colt ain’t what it was I hear.....the Bren with the burl grip was pretty enougj

By the way one caveat

In a carbine the .45 slightly surpassed the 10mm after 100-125 yards

Before that the velocity and energy is about 25-35% in favor of the 10mm from pistol or carbine

45 usually 230 grain
10mm usually 175-180 grain

I think the 10mm is superior but I own a .45 in acp and LC

Actually, grizzly/brown bear meat is inedible. Even the natives don’t eat it.

Unless you’re buying your meat from an organic farmer, you’re getting a lot worse stuff at your local grocer.
