Seventh Day Adventists
Founder: William Miller

Overview
In 1782 William Miller was born on the east coast of the United States.  As a young man he was a farmer and during the war of 1812, he served as a captain in the American armed forces.  In 1833 he was licensed to preach by a Baptist church but was never ordained.  After having studied the Bible for two years, in 1818 Miller announced to the world that in 25 years (March 1844) Jesus Christ would return to the earth.  At the height of his ministry, Miller had gathered some 50,000 followers, who had also become known as "Adventists." When March 1844 came and went with no sign of Jesus Christ having returned, Miller recalculated the new date to October 22, 1844.  When Jesus did not return on October 22, 1844, the entire Millerite movement collapsed as his followers' Christian faith were destroyed.  Miller revamped his doctrine to say that Christ had indeed returned, but that Miller had not understood that Christ first had to come to the "Heavenly Sanctuary," which He is now busy cleaning.  Once Jesus has cleansed things up in heaven, He would be coming back to the earth.

The remnant that bought into this lie formed the Advent Church and in 1845 William Miller became its first president.  The name was later changed to Seventh Day Adventists and after the death of Miller in 1849 a new false prophet came on the scene, this time a woman, Ellen G. White. At the age of 13, Ellen was taken to a meeting where William Miller spoke and was converted to the Adventist faith. During the month of December, 1844, Ellen was holding a prayer meeting in which she had a vision and felt that she was transported to heaven and shown that Christ could not come back to the earth until the Great Commission has been fulfilled.  This revelation was later going to be mixed in with the teaching that Christ had come back in 1844, but that He stopped in the heaven sanctuary to first clean that up.  Thus, like with so many other false movements, the leaders in the Advents movement had to cover up for the false prophecy of William Miller.

On August 30, 1846 Ellen married James White, who had been ordained into the Adventist church in 1843.  Her ascension as a "prophetess" in the Seventh Day Adventist Church had now begun.  During her  years as the "seer" for the SDA church, she prophesied a number of predictions, which did not come true.  One of the most blatant false prophecies she made was when she predicted before the American Civil war, that the Union would not be preserved but that the United States would be divided, slavery would not be abolished but England would intervene and declare war on the United States.  Any student of history knows differently.  But, like so many other false movements, these failed prophecies are swept under the rug and most Seventh Day Adventists today do not even know about them.

Like so many other cults, the doctrine of the SDA church evolved with time.  The doctrine of Saturday as the Sabbath was not preached by William Miller, but came in later.  Neither did Miller preach and believe in vegetarianism.

With the collapse of Miller's prediction that Christ would return in 1844, the movement needed a cause in order to survive.  After the damage control had been completed and the SDA spin doctors had cured the disease, it was time for the SDA leadership to hammer out some kind of "theology" that could be used to attract new converts to their fold.

The teaching of vegetarianism came from the Whites.  In1864 Ellen's husband became ill and Ellen nursed him back to health.  After his recovery James and Ellen began to think about food and eating habits.  Since just a practical experience would not do the job of changing the theology of the SDA church, Ellen had a "convenient" vision from the Lord, and vegetarianism was not introduced tot he church as a "THUS SAYS THE LORD."  In 1866 the Western Health Reform Institute was founded at Battle Creek, Michigan.  Despite the new vegetarian diet, James White died in1881.

Ellen was always writing for the SDA denominational publications, and wrote a string of books.  One well known book and still pushed hard by the SDA members is, "The Great Controversy." It is important to note that Ellen was a proven plagiarist. The explanation of the SDA Church for her plagiarism, that there were no copyright laws back then does not excuse her "borrowing".

SDA's often make every effort to appear "evangelical", joining in with inter-ministry groups and trying to "blend in" with the Christian community. However, make no mistake about it, they believe they are exclusively correct because they recognize and follow Ellen G. White. Among themselves, they mock the Christian's beliefs, calling our concept of salvation, "cheap grace". They privately consider themselves to be spiritually superior to the rest of us.

The SDA Church made this statement in their "Ministry" magazine of October 1981 and has never retracted it:

"We believe the revelation and inspiration of both the Bible and Ellen White’s writings to be of equal quality. The superintendence of the Holy Spirit was just as careful and thorough in one case as in the other."

Extracted from a National Institutes of Health report full report link below. (Summary: the so-called SDA veggie diet and health message does have significant health and longevity benefits. )—- Extract:” vegetarians had 55% lower odds of developing hypertension. The odds of developing type-2 diabetes was 25% to 49% lower for vegetarians compared to non-vegetarians in different cohorts. The odds of developing metabolic syndrome (MetS) for vegetarians were about half compared to non-vegetarians.

Table 4 presents results comparing risks of all-cancer and cancer-specific sites between vegetarian and non-vegetarian Adventists. Vegetarians experienced a modest, 8% risk reduction for overall-cancer. For cancer-specific sites, vegetarians had approximately half the risk of developing colon cancer. Also, vegetarians had 23% risk reduction for cancer of the gastrointestinal tract. Vegetarians experienced a 35% risk reduction for prostate cancer compared to non-vegetarians. Similarly, vegetarians tended to have lower risk for cancer of the respiratory tract and overall-cancer. No significant differences between the diet groups were found for other site-specific cancers including lung, breast, and uterine.

Table 5 presents all-cause and cause-specific mortality comparing vegetarians to non-vegetarians. In all three cohorts, vegetarians experienced a 10% to 20% decreased in all-cause mortality. Similarly, vegetarians had 26% to 68% lower risks of mortality from ischemic heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and cerebrovascular disease. Vegetarians experienced a 48% risk reduction in mortality from breast cancer, and modest risks reduction from other-cause total mortality. No significant risks reduction in cause-specific mortality were found among vegetarians, particularly for cancers of the stomach, colorectal, lung, and prostate.

Table 6 presents cardiometabolic-related factors comparing vegan and lacto-ovo-vegetarian Adventists to the non-vegetarian counterparts. Lacto-ovo-vegetarians and vegans had respectively, 3 and 5 points lower BMI than non-vegetarians. For hypertension, lacto-ovo-vegetarians experienced 55% lower risks; whereas, vegans had 75% risks reduction when compared to non-vegetarians. Similarly, lacto-ovo-vegetarian and vegan were associated with lower risks of type-2 diabetes. The risks reduction of diabetes for lacto-ovo-vegetarians varied between 38% and 61%; and 47% to 78% for vegans. When stratified by ethnicity, the relative risks reduction for diabetes was greater in blacks than non-blacks when compared with their non-vegetarian counterparts. For all cardiometabolic-related outcomes, vegans had lower risk than lacto-ovo-vegetarians compared to non-vegetarians.

Table 7 presents all-cancer and site-specific cancers for vegan and lacto-ovo-vegetarian Adventists compared to non-vegetarians. Overall, vegans experienced modest risks reduction (14%) for all-cancer, but not significant for lacto-ovo-vegetarians. When stratified by gender, no significant differences were observed in the hazard ratio for all-cancer in vegans. Conversely, lacto-ovo-vegetarians conferred 24% risks reduction for cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, but not significant for vegans. Vegans experienced 73% higher risk for urinary tract cancer compared to non-vegetarians. Neither vegans nor lacto-ovo-vegetarians had significant risks reduction for cancer of the respiratory tract.

Table 8 presents results for all-cause and cause-specific mortality comparing lacto-ovo-vegetarian and vegan Adventists to non-vegetarians. Lacto-ovo-vegetarians experienced a 9% risks reduction for all-cause total mortality. Vegan had 14% lower risks of all-cause mortality in males. Lacto-ovo-vegetarian and vegan males experienced a 23% and 42% risks reduction in CVD mortality, respectively. Vegan males also had a 55% risk reduction for ischemic heart disease...”. The above, whether interesting reading or not, is, at best, a thin, surface treatment of the issues of the SDA Church. And on certain points is outright false. The tenor of the article is predisposed toward painting the SDA Church as misguided or cultish. It is not a complete or honest treatment of the subject.

In regards to Michael, the Arch-Angel, Adventists and Evangelicals have different interpretations. If the name Michael, the Arch-Angel does mean, “One who is God and is the main messenger”, who else can that really be, if not Jesus?

No angel can raise the dead, but that imparting life back to unlife is one of the functions of Michael.

I’m not saying that Adventists are correct in all things. They are not correct, imo, about the Sabbath. Yes, the Sabbath will become an issue in the last days as the worldwide powers of religion and secular state make deals and Sunday could very well be one of the agreements made that will be made mandatory for people to keep. However, where I believe Adventists are wrong is the person being lost if they do not keep the Sabbath.

The Great Commission has promised explicitly salvation to anybody who simply follows the Christ. There are no conditions given to how far along following a person must be in order to receive salvation. The thief on the Cross received it for merely having asked for Salvation.

Do Adventists still have these verses in their Bible. If so, do they believe them?

“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” (Galatians 3:10-14).

Based on their own teachings, the Adventists do fit the definition of a cult, don’t you think?

Comes out of the Council of Nicea where The Sabellians (after the Libyan Sabellius) taught that there was a single entity, the prosōpon, made up of God the Father and Christ the Son.

The Trinitarian Church fathers, Bishop Alexander of Alexandria and his deacon, Athanasius, believed there were three persons in one god (Father, Son, Holy Spirit).

Michael does not mean that and ultimately Michael is an angel, not God.

>>>The Great Commission has promised explicitly salvation to anybody who simply follows the Christ.<<<

So, does this mean that a man is saved by merely believing that Jesus Christ took their place on the Cross and paid for all their sins: past, present, and future and that there is nothing more that they need to do? Like Abraham believed?

“What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” (Romans 4:1-5).

Is that what they believe? In a nutshell?

The Christians believed and believe that there is One God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And no, Michael is not God.

What does Michael mean?
The name Michael is of Hebrew origin.
The meaning of Michael is “who is like G-d”.

http://www.ourbabynamer.com/meaning-of-Michael.html

When the Bible uses the term Like, it is as though you said, is.

The term angel means Messenger. Arch Angel means King of all the messengers and there is only one Arch-angel.

Who is like God and the King of all the Angels. That’s the literal definition of Michael the Archangel.

The Bible calls Christ, the King of Kings, so why wouldn’t he be King of all the Angels as well?

I think Adventists are contrary to Scripture on this point. They believe that when you have solidified a Truth about the Bible, you must keep that Truth or you will remain in an unrepented state. Being unrepented could cause you to be lost.

I believe that they are wrong on that point.

If only all these cults like the SDA’s, Mormons, HRC, etc., would go back to their Bibles and carefully and meticulously read Galatians. Also, a good sound foundation in proper hermeneutics would greatly help people interpret the Bible correctly before jumping off a cliff.

I think the dietary laws do need to be considered by Christians. Eating unclean foods makes you unclean, though all that means is that you cannot present yourself before God when you are in an unclean state, until you digested your meal as it were.

Eating unclean foods will not condemn you, but God will not stay the consequences of eating unhealthfully. If God won’t save you from intaking high amounts of sugar, do you think He will stay the consequences if you eat scavangers, carnivores, or naturally disease ridden foods?

My mom’s Methodist Church suffered a fire and some portions of the roof were damaged. An inspection reveiled the building was unsafe.

The local SDA church offered their building for Sunday services.
Good people...
