(CNN) Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama on Sunday described the allegations against President Donald Trump as "serious" but said he is keeping an open mind when it comes to the Senate impeachment trial.

Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Jones said he has been reviewing information about the allegations that Trump used his office to pressure Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to dig up dirt on a potential political rival.

"I'm trying to see if the dots get connected. If that is the case, then I think it's a serious matter. I think it's an impeachable matter," he said. "But if these dots aren't connected and there are other explanations that I think are consistent with innocence, I will go that way too.

"What I really want to see, though, is to fill in the gaps," he said. "There are gaps."

Look between Schiffty's ears. Jones is up for reelection against Sessions. The vote to aquit could be bipartisan.

Those gaps are called a lack of real evidence. Glad I could clear that up for him.

Democrat Party control of House and Senate will mean that no pro-American President will be able tomstay in office.

Those arent gaps. Those are a framework.

What a weak weasel word reply by Jones.

Trump carried 62 percent of the Alabama vote in 2016, and I would take a humble guess (based on the choices of Biden, Mayor Pete, or Warren)...that Trump should be able to pick up 2 to 5 points more in 2020. For Jones, he doesn’t need extra trouble in getting re-elected.

Presently, both Jones and Manchin (WV) might be pro-Trump votes in the Senate.

Little Jeffy is going to waltz back into his Senate seat. It makes little difference what Jones does here.

That comparison would be more apt if it compared to Hiroshima and Nagasaki if they had been developed and dropped by the Japanese.

Ted Kennedy said it’s not about guilt or innocence, but the seriousness of the charges.
