Did Pelosi cave on impeachment? Depends on who you ask: ANALYSIS (IMPEACHMENT HELD HOSTAGE - DAY 25)
ABC 'News' ^ | 1/11/20 | Anne Flaherty, Benjamin Siegel

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi waited more than three weeks to deliver the impeachment articles for President Donald Trump -- a seemingly odd move after Democrats spent weeks arguing that removing Trump was urgently needed to protect the integrity of the 2020 election.

Even as some Democrats joined Republicans in calling for the articles to move, Pelosi coolly responded that she would do so only when she was good and ready.

"It cracks me up to see on TV, ‘Oh, the pressure,'" Pelosi told reporters Friday, just moments before telling her colleagues in a letter that she was ready to send the articles -- even without seeing the text of impeachment trial rules from Senate Republicans she had insisted was necessary.

“Where’s the pressure? I have news for them. You don’t have a story,” she said.

In the end, Pelosi’s maneuvering might have some Americans scratching their heads. Democrats insist her delay was about maximizing leverage, and that she got as much as she could. Republicans counter she undercut her own argument of urgency and lost momentum.

“This has been a strategy that essentially shines a bright light on the question of fairness,” Elshami said.

Elshami is just making up stuff. Whatever sticks. If it doesn't, try something else. Spin it as much as possible. Maybe score some political points. Polish that turd. Some voters may actually enjoy it. Focus group it. Try again. Make some headlines. Scream if you have to. Take a poll. Caucus time. Call ABC 'News'.

All kindergarten nonsense. Pathetic.

dumbazz pelosi - fairness LOL she was tasked with a specific job regarding possible impeachment (did president truly commit an impeachble act, if so what act and vote to impeach or not and send any impeachment to senate - period)

her concern about fairness (what will senate do with house of rep info on impeachment) is only because her articles of impeachment are so weak/bogus.

pelosi’s articles of impeachment are like a kid throwing together last minute slip-shod report for school and hoping teacher will add more to the report to enhance it before grading, rather than just grade it on actual content submitted.

Fairness from people who broke every rule in the book is rich and these people aren’t coming to the court with clean hands.

They’re not the people entitled to it. Fairness and justice are due to the accused and not to the benefit of the prosecutors.

Democrats can go fly a kite.

The problem for House Democrats and Pelosi is they live in their own echo chamber and believe 99% of the public want Trump removed. Pelosi honestly thought she could successfully withhold the articles and dictate the Senate rules because there would be some massive public pressure campaign that would force McConnell to cave and let her control the Senate trial. Of course that did not happen, in fact McConnell even got the wavering moderates like Collins and Murkowski over to his side and most of the citizenry just yawned at Pelosi's antics.

Now Pelosi is stuck, she can keep holding the articles which means no trial happens and Trump remains President by default or she will be forced to slink over and hand the articles to the Senate with nothing to show for her delay.

I think she overplayed her hand and assumed that Trump would crack and pressure McConnell to allow witnesses if she held out long enough. In that she wasn’t successful. So she has no choice but to cut her losses.

It appears several Republicans are ready to support the Democrat demands for endless “new” witnesses to be called.

There is no question she slammed the brakes on. Seems to me the only reason for a politician to slam the brakes on that fast is when the get a tip they are about to be indicted.

Politically, I thought impeachment delay was a good strategy for the Democrats.

For instance...

During the hiatus, a number of documents were released via Freedom of Information Act requests.

The documents are Democrat-friendly, of course.

They show correspondence between various people at the State Department and at OMB contradicting Trump's version of events or questioning Trump's motives in the Ukraine call.

Naturally, the Democrats know exactly where to look for these documents, and, naturally, State and OMB release un-redacted documents just a few weeks after they received the FOIA requests.

Also during the hiatus, some journalist convinced John Bolton to agree to testify if he gets a subpoena.

LOL - compare and contrast to our side...

Judicial Watch is still trying to extract redacted documents from the State Department about Hillary's illegal private server that were written in 2012 - eight years ago!

She’s having a meeting with her colleagues on Tuesday. This is not over yet. They could convince her to keep them longer.

Out of respect for my country and its institutions, I was once able to tolerate Pelosi (while abhoring her politics).

No more.

Her nasty impeachment sideshow made it clear, she is a major user.....subjugating her govt office for political gain.

She used her position of importance as an opportunistic tool to undermine the republic and to slap down its citizens.

Thank God she lost.

Pelosi has forever damaged the office of Speaker of the House......

The fact that she’s third in line to the Presidency surely led her astray........
<><> she kept acting “like a president”......
<><> recently giving a SOTU address........
<><> had herself taped “signing” legislative actions,
<><> gave out signing pens, as if she were some kind of executive.

One big clue to her evil plan......after the House passed the articles, she was so sure of herself,
she had Schiff announce similar action against Pence........to get him out of her “way to glory.”

Now she’s cooked her goose.......a lame duck if there ever was one.

Nanzi flopped bigtime, and she knows it——she cunningly planned all of it.....
<><> over two years of researching her options,
<><> conferring with the Left,
<><> writing the numerous impeachment scripts
<><> handing out their roles to the various Trump haters
<><> rehearsing the actors 24/7.
<><> her media hopscotch to deny, deny, deny impeachment was afoot,
<><> every word focus-grouped for maximum impact.

She is a cunning scam artist. To suggest this slimeball with a gavel doesnt know what she’s doing is the height of folly.

Some say McConnell should simply dismiss due to lack of actual charges......

Forget dismissal for lack of evidence. Senate actions must humiliate DemocRATs.

Nothing short of a Democrat annihilation will do.

Americans must be made witness to:
<><> Democrats violent hatred for Trump
<><> Democrats raging hatred for an entire class of Americans
<><> impeachment as revenge (not justice)
<><> vengeful Democrats punishing Trump voters
<><> Democrats banking their future on the chaos of impeachment
<><> the outrageous Third World MO used to structure impeachment.

Every Senate action should show Americans and the world The True Impact of the Democraps’ evilness.

hand the articles to the Senate with nothing to show for her delay.

I am thinking she may have something to show. Biden having an advantage in Iowa and NH, due to Bernie, Pocahontas, and a bunch of other Presidential candidates not being able to campaign. They won't be around for the Iowa caucus or the NH Primary. They will be sitting in their Senate seat 6 days a week for 4 weeks or more.

Was the three week delay intentional by the Dem party to deny Bernie? He is first place in Iowa.
