MONT BELVIEU, Texas On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a district that touts its excellence found itself embroiled in controversy about race, discrimination and dreadlocks.
"The dress code is designed by white people for white people and is damaging to black bodies," said Black Lives Matter activist Ashton Woods.

The School Board is wrong. His dreadlocks are not too long.
Let the idiot wear his hair however he wants, give him his diploma, and say goodbye.
Then let him figure it out when he tries to get a job in Texas.
What a dreadful story.
I have seen plenty of filthy White hippies with dreadlocks.
I once in a while see one or two white guys with dreads. They are then excoriated for expropriation of black people’s cultural heritage.
A comedian said when the Movie “10” with Bo Derek was popular in 1979:
“I went to Africa this year. All the young girls are imitating Bo Derek’s hair style over there. Copycats.”
... and is damaging to black bodies,” said Black Lives Matter activist Ashton Woods.
******
A dress code that is damaging to black bodies?
And they wonder why no one except degenerate muckraking race card waving excuse mongers take them seriously.
As to this particular issue at this particular time...
too little too late imo. If the powers that be at that school had issue with dress code compliance from that kid then it should have been taken care of then and there.
And to the kid. Get used to having to make excuses on how “the man” is keeping you down, numb nut. Fly that freak hair flag with pride in a total commitment to no better than minimum wage employment for life.
Would have had a little more credibility on his side of the issue if the guys defending him weren’t mostly bald.
If it applys to whites, and blacks want to be treated equally, then sorry punk! Wear that shit in a bun.
Now the humor is getting good again. We need it.
Is the boy Rastafarian or is he guilty of cultural appropriation?
“”The dress code is designed by white people for white people and is damaging to black bodies,”
Funny. I’m a private school / academy grad and I had a lot of classmates who weren’t white. Yet they wore the necktie and blazer like I did and didnt bitch about it. On the dreads..just let the kid graduate. It’s AFTER HS graduation is when life really treats you well or treats you like crap.
In Texas it’s normally “not over the collar”. Style has nothing to do with it.
Snip those braids about three inches. Right now, he looks like a little girl. All he needs is a bunch of beads in there. This shouldn’t be allowed to grow into a big deal.
Everyone conforms in a school to some degree.
Focus on grades.
If he professes to be a girl inspired by Bo Derek he may be able to graduate. How does he look in a bikini?
I once read that dreadlocks were first worn in ancient Greece. I don’t know if that’s true, but what fun it would be if it were and we called blacks out on their cultural appropriation.
I know where he’s coming from. the amount of body damage I sustain during a haircut is horrible.
Listening to the individual hairs scream as they are cut is the worst...
Reparations, here we come.
i personally think the things look awful
but discriminating against an obviously-racist-identified physical appearance item .... is a clear violation of civil rights law
incidentally, out in the once-great state of Californication.... has just passed a special statute specifically addressing such racially-identified hairstyles.
