Trump rips coronavirus coverage, to hold news conference (6 PM)
The Hill ^ | 02 27 2020 | Brett Samuels

President Trump said in an early-morning tweet on Wednesday that he will hold a news conference at 6 p.m. to address his administration's response to the coronavirus outbreak.

In the post, he continued to blame the media and Democrats for overstating the danger of the disease, even as health experts have warned of its spread.

Trump accused MSNBC and CNN of "doing everything possible to make the Caronavirus look as bad as possible, including panicking markets, if possible." The president initially misspelled the name of the virus.

He insisted the U.S. is "in great shape" in its handling of the disease, adding that he and health officials will hold a news conference at the White House on Wednesday evening.

This especially true in China because there could not test everyone. If you died without being tested it was pneumonia or unknown.

Looks like you’ve been getting enough guff to be constantly “irritated” - you and Reno89519 seem to be of a kind - always looking for reason to bitch about President Trump....no need to act surprised, the folks critiquing you have been making it clear as to why...since I was mentioning you, it is considered to be bad juju to not also copy you...like I’m doing Reno on this one...
This will probably torque your jaws too - https://freerepublic.com/donate/

So true. If this virus was living up to the hype thousands here would already have died. We already lost over 8,000 to the regular flu. Instead we have 58 cases and nobody died.

Oh I thought we were talking about the certainty of the black plague here. Im glad you understand that all the hype is designed to bring down our markets and wound our economy. Its not going to work except short term here but China is in real trouble. This mess is likely to force the Fed to bring rates at or near zero where they need to be.

It isn’t hype.

It also isn’t ‘the flu’.

That trope will go out the door really fast once this gets going in country.

The new case in CA wasn’t discovered until after he’d been in the hospital some days and was already intubated. He likely won’t make it. Intubation stats with this thing are dismal at best.

We still don’t know how this guy caught it because he has no recent travel to China nor contact with anyone who does.

So this is already circulating here.

Give it another 3 or 4 weeks and we’ll probably look like South Korea or Italy.

What you DO need to pray about is that we have enough doses of the Gilead company’s drug for everyone.

That drug seems to be a miracle worker.

But it’s an experimental drug we likely don’t have enough doses of right now. But I suspect that was one of the big topics of discussion from Trump’s India trip.

The media will do ANYTHING to damage Trump and they see this as an opportunity to create hysteria with the goal of damaging the market and possibly the economy during an election year. It’s obvious what is going on...and Trump clearly understands it. The stunning thing to me is how many so called conservatives are willingly going along with it.

Like I said, this so called “deadly” virus has been circulating around Asia and Europe for months yet there are only a couple of thousand deaths! This is in a region with BILLIONS of people. If this is truly as deadly as hyped there would literally be millions of bodies scattered across that region by now. Use some logic people.

When we get 8000 dead here in the US from coronavirus we will just have caught up with the regular flu which never makes the six oclock news cycle. So far we are working on one and flu season will be over in a month or so. This stuff is no worse than the regular flu. Almost everyone who catches it makes a full recovery. If you can’t get 10%-15% mortality its hard to get an epidemic going. The Spanish flu was 10%-20%. Coronavirus is what 2%? Its not an epidemic. Not gonna happen.

I’ve been downloading first hand accounts of CV survivors. Most say it isn’t as bad as the flu. Some say it is like a heavy cold.

Actually I am wondering how many of those deaths were not the flu, but from coronavirus? Just the dumb question or thought this morning as this is believed to have been circulating in Wuhan a good 30-60 days before discovery?

Which if true...it is here circulating already and like many people thinking they have the cold/flu are actually sick with Covid19?

Lots of questions and unknowns still at this point.

You do realize the CDC includes every pneumonia death with the flu statistics.

And that last year I looked at, fewer than 2000 people actually died of 'the flu'.

I've gotten pneumonia from seasonal allergies. Had I died from that pneumonia I'd have been included in the 'flu death' stats.

The Spanish flu was ~2.5%, have no idea where you got 20%.

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/12/1/05-0979_article

"An estimated one third of the world's population (or ≈500 million persons) were infected and had clinically apparent illnesses (1,2) during the 1918–1919 influenza pandemic. The disease was exceptionally severe. Case-fatality rates were >2.5%, compared to <0.1% in other influenza pandemics "

So CFR (case fatality rate) of the spanish flu and this bug are roughly equivalent. And by 'almost everyone who catches it makes a full recovery' you mean the 80% 'mild' cases. The dude in CA will likely die if he's not given that experimental drug. It may be too late already as he was intubated with this days ago.

Well if your theory is right then coronavirus is nothing new as we lose 30,000-40,000 per year here in the US from flu each year. 80,000 in 2018. Coronavirus must have been extra bad that year. 😆

That's 8000 deaths in 15 million cases. Using the optimistic death rate from the coronavirus, 15 million cases would lead to 375,000 deaths. Don't you think that's something for the government to take steps to deal with?

Do you think SK has essentially shut down whole industries over a ‘heavy cold’? Ditto Italy.

For 80% of people, it is a heavy cold. It’s the other 20% that will crash our hospital system.

Look for the ‘reinfection rate’ though.

Japan has a case, already, of someone who ‘recovered’, tested negative, and was back in the hospital with it testing positive 2 or 3 weeks later.

So, for some reason, didn’t develop immunity to it the first time.

China reports 15% or so of tested survivors are ending up BACK in the hospital with it the second time. Some of them weeks after they ‘recovered’.

It’s an awfully ‘lucky’ bug though. Seems it’s picked up some mojo from HIV. Which might account for some people failing to develop immunity.

My point being those who have already passed away from suspected flu in the past 2 months or so...after travel in China, may not have been the flu. People coming in contact with them thinking they caught the flu, but are actual mild cases or coronavirus supports what you are saying.

They report this was part of the issue in Wuhan before it got out of control.

The ongoing thought is if Wuhan thought it was the flu and we now know you can catch it again, and it’s worse the second time...well that would explain how it seemed to suddenly explode in Wuhan.

It is just interesting to watch how the world is reacting as well. Such crazy stringent quarantining...if it’s no worse than a common cold, then what are they doing? Better yet, really, why?

Yes, it is possible, not likely but possible, entire governments are being played.

Even the CDC says this stuff has a low mortality rate. You can’t get much of an epidemic going if nobody is dying. This stuff is the common cold in most people.

““irritated” - you and Reno89519 seem to be of a kind”

Not likely.

But I have noticed some blind political advocates lately. Always on, with a chip on their shoulder.

You know, the “no matter what crowd”, and many proud to be.

These are not thinking people mind you, they emote and provoke. In a singular direction. They’re even prone to that deluded superiority complex.

I think there’s a factory for ‘em around here somewhere.
