Trump Keeps Talking. Some Republicans Don't Like What They're Hearing.
The NY Times via Yahoo! News ^ | April 10, 2020 | by Jonathan Martin and Maggie Haberman, The New York Times

WASHINGTON - In his daily briefings on the coronavirus, President Donald Trump has brandished all the familiar tools in his rhetorical arsenal: belittling Democratic governors, demonizing the media, trading in innuendo and bulldozing over the guidance of experts.

It’s the kind of performance the president relishes but one that has his advisers and Republican allies worried.

As unemployment soars and the death toll skyrockets, and new polls show support for the president’s handling of the crisis sagging, White House allies and Republican lawmakers increasingly believe the briefings are hurting the president more than helping him. Many view the sessions as a kind of original sin from which all of his missteps flow, once he gets through his prepared script and turns to his preferred style of extemporaneous bluster and invective.

Trump “sometimes drowns out his own message,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who has become one of the president’s informal counselors and told him “a once-a-week show” could be more effective. Rep. Susan Brooks of Indiana said “they’re going on too long.” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia said the briefings were “going off the rails a little bit” and suggested that he should “let the health professionals guide where we’re going to go.”

Even the conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board chastised the president for his behavior at the briefings. “COVID-19 isn’t shifty Schiff,” it wrote in an editorial Thursday, using Trump’s nickname for Rep. Adam Schiff. “It’s a once-a-century threat to American life and livelihood.”

With only intermittent attempts to adapt to a moment of crisis, Trump is effectively wagering that he can win reelection in the midst of a national emergency on a platform of polarization.

Let’s have the names of these RINO’s.
If these RINO’s are so concerned, why not go public?
Because they are cowards. That’s why.

“White house allies and Republican lawmakers think the briefings are hurting him”.
Which White House allies? how would Maggie Haberman know any White House allies? Which Republican lawmakers, someone on the city council of Buffalo NY?
Anything Maggie Haberman says is propaganda and you can be sure the opposite is true. They don’t like seeing Trump solving problem after problem.

Yes thats the media goal. However they never score points on anyone but themselves. This is just another lame attempt to get him off the stage where he cores day after day and they cant stoo him.

Educated idiots....These are the New York Times readers. They crave their daily dose of why Trump will fail on Covid19 and everything else. These two reporters are providing it.

I like how they wheel out the mindless Mitt for some incisive words on Trump.

I read that as "Trump is being effective. We're not hurting him yet. Double down! Triple down!! Must stop Orange Man!!!"

I love the smell of liberal panic in the morning...

Odd, isn’t it? The NYT “newspaper’ reports on Trunp’s declining popularity, job performance ratings, etc. yet the Fox News Poll, which has a consistent anti-Trump and anti-R bias, reported LAST NITE that Trump has the highest approval rating of his presidency this week.

Yeah. “Trump said something I didn’t like this one time. That’s why I’m voting for the democrat in November.” said no Trump supporter ever.

Indeed. He won in 2016, and I think he'll win in a landslide in 2020. Yet all this carping will continue.

Some outlets consider ‘some Republicans’ to be any R that isn’t in 1000% lockstep with a R President.

That is where the Ds ‘have us beat’, they at least stick together and in the occasion one may ‘wander off the reservation’ the Ds will either say it was in the best interest to ‘go against the grain’ OR if they seriously rebel, they get assigned ‘Colonel of the Urinal’ duties.

R’s rise up and the R leadership goes along to get along.

PDJT gets ‘blamed’ for the sudden departure of the Rs after his inaugration, and - in essence - it was his doing as he ‘OUTED’ all those that had run on ‘DUMP OBAMASCARE’ platform and when someone came along that was willing to do it, they recanted and figuring they would get dumped anyway, they resigned citing Trump was unreasonable and destructive.

Drain the Swamp

FOLLOW THE MONEY

Trump “sometimes drowns out his own message,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham

I agree with that...sometimes to his detriment...but other times it simultaneously drowns out the message of others and takes them out of getting any publicity. How many people even remember Joe Biden is running for President right now, for example?
