They sent mine via direct deposit to a bank account I closed a year ago, even though I’d already filed my tax return with the correct information. I have no idea when or if they’ll discover their error and send a paper check.
If the article is correct, there is a timetable depending on how much you made last year. I changed addresses and had to send a letter form to the IRS in March, plus USPS address change as well. The portal didnt work for me even though I filed 2018.

My wife’s friend had that happen when she filed last year for 2018. The deposit was refused by the bank and the IRS sent her a paper copy check that arrived about 6 weeks later.
One year my son got a letter from the IRS explaining his refund check was delayed because (wait for it) they did not have a current address for him.
