Jacksonville mayor expects Trump convention speech to bring in $100M: 'We plan on having a full arena'

Jacksonville's mayor scored a major political coup this week: President Trump will deliver his Aug. 27 convention speech in the Florida city after a dispute over coronavirus-related crowd restrictions led him to mostly abandon North Carolina, where the Republican convention was originally planned.

"We plan on having a full arena," Mayor Lenny Curry, a Republican, told FOX Business' Stuart Varney on Friday.

Republican officials on Thursday evening announced that they were shifting key events away from Charlotte, N.C., after a public rift with the state's Democratic governor over social distancing guidelines.

Wonderful! Lenny Curry has done some stupid stuff and DeSantis had to correct him, but he’s doing a great job on the convention. I’ve already volunteered to work at it.

In the midst of pulling down statues. He does not deserve this convention.

Roy Cooper makes Bev Perdue look like a bona fide strategic genius.

Worst governor in North Carolina history. Am hoping the people of Charlotte will remember this come November.

“Hotter than hell and hurricane season. I’m out.”

Im in. I don’t care if there’s an F5, flooding and asshole Antifa thugs outside. Seeing and hearing Trump in a place where everyone have the same mindset negates the small issue of weather. Heck, I’ve been to the Philippines during the typhoon season and the next day, the humidity was in the 90’s. Just man up stuff..

The RNC is still exploring how best to accommodate city visitors (during the 2005 Super Bowl, cruise ships were brought in to house city visitors).

Lord knows there are enough of them available.

Hotter than hell and hurricane season. I’m out.

Spent an August and half a September there on business once. Oppressively hot and humid. The black interior of my rental car became a scalding hazard. You could set your watch buy a gullywasher thunderstorm every day at 4PM.

But, some of the friendliest, most polite people I've ever been around.

Just sayin...I think Gov DeSantis is presidential material for the next time around. Our best presidents have been former governors.

Glad a site has been selected. Too bad the city has a pissant mayor.

He is about worthless. He totally caved to the left about desecrating monuments that honor Florida's military dead.

I said pissant.

I live in the country just outside of Jacksonville and I work in the city. Mayor Curry is not a made Mayor; far better than the alternatives presented to us. While I am personally disappointed by the removal of the statutes I believe it was a compromise with the black leaders (sic) of the city to avoid the kind of protests we have seen in other cities during the convention. Remember this was the home turf of Corrine Brown who is rotting in prison. If Curry can deliver a successful convention in Jacksonville I can forgive him sacrificing our monuments.

I hope they choose and play “Happy Days are here again” for the convention and campaign theme song.

If an F5 zeros in on Jacksonville, we know that DNC Officials made a deal with powers in the lower regions. In seven years they will all disappear in a blinding flash
