An electrical engineer and roboticist by training, he worked for a long time at Lucasfilm's THX and Industrial Light and Magic divisions. Grant Imahara, an electrical engineer and roboticist who hosted the popular science show MythBusters and Netflix's White Rabbit Project, has died. He was 49.

Imahara died suddenly following a brain aneurysm, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. "We are heartbroken to hear this sad news about Grant. He was an important part of our Discovery family and a really wonderful man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family," a representative for Discovery said in a statement on Monday.

It mentions that in the article. When I first read that I thought “No way - that was a guy in a horse suit!” Then of course I remembered the robot.

On the last show they revealed who was inside the horse. (3 minute clip of the last show):

I'm sorry the brain lesion permanently affected your sister's vision.   With my wife it affected her perception.   She would try to pick something up from the counter and her hand would bump into the cabinet underneath or try to get something out of the refrigerator and her hand went under the shelf.

She plays the piano everyday and that was something she missed doing, but it also may have been good therapy when she started to play again.   She plays better now than before it happened but has said a few times in the past that she still senses a lingering feeling that something did happen to her mind.   We're both over sixty-five so maybe it's partly old age.

If memory serves...

Now I'm reliving old episodes of Iron Chef Japan.

He was only 50. I bet dying at such a young age would clear Free Republic of more than half its current readers.

How sad. I liked him on “Mythbusters.”

In addition to being technically skilled, Grant Imahara was cheerful and straightforward, which made him an appealing counterpoint to the odd personalities of the two main Mythbuster characters, Jamie Savage and Adam Hyneman.

Never seen etc but I do remember when Art Bell was the ‘sane one’ on his show and I did realize he was ‘doing a job’ etc...

The ones that ‘scared’ me were those calling in with all their claims etc and those that totally believed them...

When I think of the effort I put into ‘assembling’ a Revell AD-1 Skyraider and the mess that it became, the skills of the CHIEF model-maker for Lucas/THX/ILM humbles me very much. God grant you Eternal Rest and Joy Mr Imahara, you left a good mark here on Earth.

Blessings to your family and friends!

Kari Byron is her name and I fully agree with your opinions. Lovely back story is that she literally came in through the backdoor to the show. She audaciously kept showing up at Jamie Hyneman’s M5 Industries studio until she got hired as an unpaid intern, a female in a male dominated SFX industry. Then, in the 2nd season [2004] of Mythbusters, it became obvious that a ‘second unit’ was needed to offset the workload for a weekly hour-long program.

Thus was born, through skill and persistence, Keri’s career, along with her colleagues of Tory Belleci and the now late Grant Imahara. FYI: They have all, since their participation in ‘Mythbusters’ ended in 2012, worked together on the Netflix series “White Rabbit.Project”.

FYI: This is NOT the 1st death in the ‘Mythbusters’ on-screen hosts. While Keri was on maternity leave in her final months before her daughter’s birth in 2010, her substitute host was Jessi Combs for 7 episodes. Ms Combs died doing what she knew was a very dangerous effort to set a new female land speed record! August 27th, 2019 at age 36.

” Grant Imahara, Host of ‘MythBusters’ and ‘White Rabbit Project,’ Dies at 49.”

Weren’t Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman the hosts of Mythbusters?

I miss Bell. He thought of his show as a forum for fringe subjects and ideas. About one in five of his shows though were authors or experts in a conventional field. And Bell took the time to read their books first, which usually led to an informed discussion.

Yes this is very sad news. He was the only member of the cast who actually had a STEM background. RIP.

Kari Byron is an outspoken atheist. We should keep her in our prayers.

AGREED! A frequent failing in the young but getting much worse in these past generations. She has so many strikes against any faith, California, grad of San Francisco State etc. While she is apparently still legally married, she described herself earlier this year as a 'single mother' so the common Hollywood casualness about marriage seems to have appeared! So I agree, she should have our prayers.

Sad news. I used to watch Mythbusters a lot when he was on with the funny guy and the hot redhead.

I know several people who have had aneurysms who have all (so far) survived. They all had various procedures done to contain the aneurysm.
