Hallmark to feature LGBT storylines, characters and actors

The Hallmark Channel, which portrays itself as the “country’s leading destination for quality family entertainment,” has announced it will feature in the coming months “LGBTQ storylines, characters, and actors.”

“Diversity and inclusion is a top priority for us and we look forward to making more programming announcements in the coming months, with projects featuring LGBTQ storylines, characters, and actors,” Hallmark said in a recent statement.

“We are committed to creating a Hallmark experience where everyone feels welcome.”

In December, the channel apologized for removing an ad from Zola.com, the wedding planning site, featuring two brides kissing. Hallmark reinstated it after backlash from gay rights advocates.

Crown Media, Hallmark’s parent company, had pulled several ads for Zola after they led to protests. Celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and William Shatner criticized the move and the hashtag #BoycottHallmarkChannel trended on Twitter at one point.

“Earlier this week, a decision was made at Crown Media Family Networks to remove commercials featuring a same-sex couple. The Crown Media team has been agonizing over this decision as we’ve seen the hurt it has unintentionally caused. Said simply, they believe this was the wrong decision,” Mike Perry, president and chief executive of Hallmark Cards, said in a statement at the time.

“Our mission is rooted in helping all people connect, celebrate traditions, and be inspired to capture meaningful moments in their lives. Anything that detracts from this purpose is not who we are. We are truly sorry for the hurt and disappointment this has caused."

Conservative group One Million Moms said in a petition, “The Hallmark Channel has always been known for its family-friendly movies. Even its commercials are usually safe for family viewing. But unfortunately, that is not the case anymore.

“Shame on Hallmark for airing commercials with same-sex couples.”

Unless something has changed, Hallmark movies are G-rated romances and/or mysteries intended for a relatively conservative female audience. The stories are often very similar, the male leads are usually very handsome, and the female characters are generally those the woman watching at home can relate to. Maybe a portion of that audience would be OK with a gay male couple here and there because some women have the “Oh, cute” thing going on with gay men, but I can’t imagine any in that crowd wanting to see lesbians and trannies. Can’t really insert yourself into that story.

Yes, that’s the template they use for the movies. They might never admit it, but their writers use just such a template, to devise the plots of their movies.

OMG, how much groundbreaking do they want to do?

In getting into the “transsexual” world, imagine a story line, in which our protagonist is transgendered, returns to the hometown, and meets a transgendered love interest?

The permutations are endless aren’t they?

Are they hiring additional actors or sticking with the 19 on hand?

The wife use to watch Hallmark all the time. She now watches any/all westerns near non-stop. I watch stuff off the internet.

I’m just now finishing the last few episodes of the last season of Alias. I can honestly say that Alias is/was the best show on TV. The episode last night, S5E11, turned everything upside down again. :<)))))))

Next, Justified and 24.

All of these are available on Roku.

Tubi is free.

Youtube has a lot of older movies and TV shows. The image quality varies and you have to search for them. I find it helpful to search for actors you are interested. Youtube is also very good for documentaries.

The various Filmrise specialty channels.

Classic movie vault.

My Retro Flix.

Classic TV & Movies.

Some of the quality on these channels is not very good.

There are many free streaming sites on the web. They are pretty easy to find. But I would make sure you have good ad and popup blockers installed and watch what you click on.

They should do a biracial couple ad with a white male and black female. That would really trigger the woke mob.

I guess they will have just one channel with LGBT stories. The rest of the channels will be as usual. Just my guess.

Well, maybe not everyone.

I bought a roku and have not been able to find any decent content for free or low cost.

Depends on what you are looking for. If you have Amazon Prime, you can stream a lot of stuff "free". Of course, it is not really free because you paid for the Prime membership, but there is no additional fee to stream Prime content.

You can also build a digital library of movies and TV seasons. If you buy a new Blu-ray, it often comes with a free digital code which you can add to your library. You can also find message boards where people sell those digital codes for a few bucks apiece.

Yep, a lot of dopey Christians have been sucked into believing that Hallmark is a Christian channel. Nope!

Thank God every movie only has a chaste kiss involved at the end. Still gross.

I dropped hallmark when they dropped Lori Laughton. Screw them. Yes she screwed up but so did felicity and she kept both jobs on Netflix.
