U.S. troops injured after altercation with Russian military convoy in Syria: Officials

The official said that the injuries occurred when one of the Russian vehicles apparently deliberately collided with the American vehicle causing the crew to suffer “concussion-like injuries.” Initial reports indicate as many as four Americans may have been injured.

The officials said a Russian military helicopter flew low and fast over the area in a tactic that is often used by military forces to try to disperse personnel on the ground.

Despite US military leadership at the highest levels being aware of the incident within a short time of it occurring, the Pentagon has still not publicly acknowledged that Americans were hurt, the officials said.

The Pentagon and US-led military coalition fighting ISIS in Syria did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the incident.

US military personnel in Syria have often found themselves operating in close proximity to Russian troops who are backing the Syrian regime, but this is believed to be the first time US troops have been injured in an encounter with Russian forces.

I hope our troops are okay but at the same time the USA has no business continuing the Obama-McCain war in Syria.

Those crazy Russian drivers! Lots of Youtube webcam videos of Russian drivers crashing - they’ll never learn.

I wish you would have made a comment. I like your insights. I don’t know what to say about this.

At this point I am confused as to all the parties involved in this war. I am not sure of our objective and I cannot comment on whether it is important enough being there.

At one point I wanted us to give some security to the kurds even if it was air cover. but the arguments against that here convinced me that although they were the ones who kept up the fight against isis we do not owe them that kind of support.

I still go back and forth on that one. Perhaps we need a presence there to make sure there was no resurgence of isis? Are we there to keep Russia in check? I know none of the answers

“I hope our troops are okay but at the same time the USA has no business continuing the Obama-McCain war in Syria.”

I predict we’ll see a lot of naked chest-thumping here shortly.

I trust President Trump to handle this appropriately.

You beat me to it. I’m no expert. But I do try to follow the news as best I can. And I have no idea why we have troops in Syria. Whose side are we on? Who are we fighting?

If an average American (me) cannot answer those basic questions, it’s probably wise to get our troops out of there.

We killed 300 of their ‘mercenaries’ awhile back. They were still Russian.

Spot on. Why have American troops invaded Syria? Can’t say it was to protect the pesecuted Christians. Any surviving Christians in the area are rightfully grateful to the Russians. Until the Russians got involved, ISIS killed, tortured and enslaved with Obama’s acquiescence.

What would Patton do?“

He’d say, “What the hell are American troops doing in Syria? Obama and Hillary put them there, it’s time to undo that mistake!”

Russia has no place either.

Even if that’s so, we have no reason to be kicking them out. This is Obama and Hillary’s war. Trump needs to get us out of it. Unfortunately , the GOPs Congress have been blocking him, including Mitch M and Liz Cheney

We are there to control the oilfields and give them to the kurds
Deny Syria the revenue its govt needs to rebuild after being torn apart.

Trump briefed this the other night after meeting the Iraqi president

I can’t say I’m proud of this. Die hard neocons in our pentagon and agencies have nailed Trump to this policy. At least he got our troops off the border and not in between Turkey, Syria and the Kurds. Giving the kurds the oilfields under US protection, having Assad accept allowing Kurds some autonomy to lay down arms against the Syrian govt in return for protection from Turkey, was probably part of a deal worked out in a third country
