Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., announced his strong opposition to Utah Sen. Mike Lee’s S.386 outsourcing bill, likely sinking the Utah Republican’s bill for the rest of the year.
Lee’s S.386 bill aids the tech industry and visa workers from India and China “at the expense of American workers, highly skilled immigrants, workers from Latin America and Europe, as well as Florida’s most important industries,” Scott wrote in the August 31 op-ed in the Miami Herald.
He continued:
Ive heard from many constituents about how this bill would impact people in Florida, especially those who came to Florida from Latin America. Floridas booming economy and location as the gateway to Latin America has allowed us to become a global hub for trade and business. We must look at the sectors that eliminating this cap would unjustly benefit, particularly the tech industry, and what sectors it would hurt.
…
We need a new approach that protects American workers and protects the diversity we cherish, and I am hopeful my colleagues in the Senate will be willing to work with me toward those goals.
Scott noted that the legislation would have a huge impact on immigration — yet it has gotten very little publicity:
Right now the United States Senate is considering a massive overhaul to our nations immigration system. And, what is shocking is that it could pass without even a single vote in the United States Senate. You read that correctly: a major change to our immigration system is being considered under unanimous consent in the U.S. Senate, which means this bill could pass without a vote ever occurring.
It hasnt yet passed because I am the only senator holding it up.
Scott’s op-ed shows that Lee’s S.386 will be blocked until at least election day [...]

Lee is the Mormon churchs open borders dirtbag water carrier.
This piece of filth should be expelled from the senate as the traitor to America that he is.
We all (myself certainly included) bash our Senators and Representatives mercilessly on FR and in many other forums when they get one wrong.
I think it’s equally important to thank them when they get one right. Sen. Scott got this one right. Thanks, Sir.
I’ve done consulting for Intel, Microsoft and several other big tech companies.
The Intel campus in Santa Clara is know as Little India.
The abuse is outrageous. And criminal.
Sorry to hear that. It makes zero sense. It’s not even that much cheaper any more, the company has to pay a market related salary to get the H1B approved.
Proud of my senator!
I agree. Some companies don’t consider anything but the next fast buck, and not building a sustainable capability.
Apart from the chance you take with skill level, some of the people that come here are treated like dirt. They have to “bribe” their managers to get the visas renewed, and if not, they get left out on the street with no recourse.
Thank you Senator Scott.
Many people here think Lee is a conservative.
A conservative like Linda is a conservative. SAR.
Unanimous consent?
Unanimous consent?
WTF is this unanimous consent sh1+show?
Financial market trading was one such industry. When I first went there for work in 1988, the bright young guys that Wall Street firms had rejected were trading for the big Japanese firms when Wall Street opened (10:30 pm Japan time). Not so much anymore.
It had the additional happy side effect (for the foreign workers like me) that we were grateful to our host country for a splendid opportunity rather than resentful for being exploited.
Unanimous consent?
Means no roll call vote.
Meaning no Senator is on record voting to give American Jobs
to non Americans.
Thank you.
It makes zero sense.
It did in this case, the company changed direction away from my skill set, in part because I convinced him that semiconductor processes were both too expensive and not a good match for upcoming products (although they're still selling the silicon based spotting pens I designed).
At least this time I didn't have to train my replacements!
the company has to pay a market related salary to get the H1B approved.
H-1Bs are not paid the prevailing wage, H-1Bs SET the prevailing wage.
I would second that guest worker program.
I don’t believe the Indians are working on third world salaries either. I see Indian families living in expensive houses and driving nice cars in suburban Atlanta everywhere.
Have existing elite IMPORTED talent (H1B holders) proudly train their US replacements as part of their visa approval. Then, ship em back to Modi.
Do you think Intels current problems can be correlated to an increase in Intel H1B labor?
Hmmm. Maybe not, their phone is no longer in service, trying to contact the owner on his cell, he lives in the SZU fire zone.
They’re making good money; just not as much as those they replace. Also, like most immigrants, they live in extended family situations, so they can afford nicer housing, while still being able to save for even nicer housing. It’s actually a good idea to live like that if it suits you, though I disagree with bringing them here to take jobs from Americans.
Look up his name for how you can contact him...do it now!

The wife gets an H4EAD & can work.
Are the Indians managers? If they are, they may be getting regular kickbacks from their direct H1B reports.
