Normal vaccine test time is 10-15 years.

nor yet the last to lay the old aside” - Pope
Doing it in a few months is crazy for good reason
. . . depending on the life expectancy of the patient.
“Desperate ills are by desperate measures cured
or not at all.” - Shakespeare
My estimate of the risk:reward ratio is a function of my age and sex. Your estimate of that ratio could obviously be wildly different if you are, say, kindergarten age and likely to care - a lot - about a side effect which won’t show up until I am dead and gone..

I need neither the absolute assurance of perfect safety nor the absolute assurance of perfect efficacy. I just need it to be very probably safe and very probably effective. Only one “very” in each case, and the more probably safe, the less crucial the proven probability of efficacy becomes. If it just might save me from Covid, who cares if I drink one glass of water more, or one less?

(Actually, my Dr. wants me drinking much more water. But you get the idea).
