I have virus fatigue. Anyone else have such thoughts?

Are we going to shut down society every time some new virus is identified? Isn’t it a fact that new bacteria and viruses are discovered all the time? Are we going to shut down for a year as we wait for a vaccine? Is this the new normal? Why didn’t we shut down for the Hong Kong flu back in the 60s, which took over 100,000 American lives then?

And another thought that comes to me, is, did we overreact to this virus? Is the cure worse than the disease, considering that this virus is not deadly to the vast majority of us, even if we do get the virus?

Since March 2020, two of my friends have died. But not from corona. One died in a fall down her basement steps. The other from peritoneal cancer.

Not covid.

My daughter and her husband in Houston had and recovered from covid. So did another friend of mine and her daughter. Her husband, living with them both never got it.

I understand anecdotally that others have friends that have caught it and died. But illness and death are a constant risk.

So, yeah, covid ain’t “the big one.”

I grew up hearing from people like Paul Ehrlich that the big problem was overpopulation.

Now I hear from Fauci that the big problem is a virus that kills people.

I just don’t think about these things. Everybody dies eventually, so why lose sleep over it? It’s all going to turn out OK.

COVID was an infectious virus that was different enough that we couldn’t expect immunities, and that had a somewhat higher death rate in part because we misunderstood the effects it had on the body and mistreated it, killing people.

In the end, if we had let it rip through the world, we’d have doubled the death rate for one year, and then had about 5 years of lower death rate than usual since the old people who would have died each year would already be dead.

It would have had much less impact on the population of the world than the Spanish Flu, or the Bubonic Plague. It was much less serious than most Ebola.

Instead, we decided to do a trial run for the end-of-the-world pandemic. We cut infections by a factor of 10.

But imagine if COVID had 4 times the death rate, as some of the things that have hit us in the past 100 years had. THAT is the real danger, something highly infectious, but also very deadly.

I suspect that we really have to worry about other even more deadly pandemics coming in the year before upcoming elections. So I imagine covid 23 and 27 could potentially be pretty darn bad indeed.

Indeed. Intentionally released or not, bad actors have learned what a pandemic can do. Whether or not you believe Covid-19 was engineered, the “big one” will be.

Bring Out Your Dead

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

The false positive rate was 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
