Obama & Kerry love the Iran regime.

That is likely behind this.

You have to pick

I pick Saudi Arabia over Iran

My Oldest son who’s thinks I’m not conservative enough and studies Syria and Assad

Picks Iran over Saudi Arabia

He gets banned from 4chan

It’s quite a pickle

“ There is a different leader in Saudi Arabia, one who was working with us”

Any alliance or even understanding with the Saudi royals was a serious error which could not stand the test of time.

Bush the failure doesn’t make us number one in oil production and didn’t get Saudi Arabia to open relations with Israel... just sayin.

Khashoggi walked into the Saudi Arabian embassy in Istanbul and left chopped up in garbage bags. There is nothing to dispute about that.

I think it's more a matter of timing my FRiend. Playing footsie with Iran while condemning Saudi leadership. Playing at pulling Iranian sanctions while threatening to levy them against Saudi over a matter that's pretty much old news, redux. A matter already being handled by Trump, and which could countinue to be handled behind the scenes, is not a good thing.

Nobody's going to hang the crown prince. If there's a call for overthrow, who replaces them, in a country that is the 12th largest sovereignty in the world, the largest economy in the Middle East, the 18th largest economy in the world and, that hosts 4 US military bases? How long until stability and who ends up in charge? Who keeps the oil flowing? Regime change - to our benefit- would need a hugh plan, with all the cogs working at the same time. Impossible with a royal family as large as the Saudis. And as impossible if more so for Biden than Obama and his 'arab spring' fiasco. So publically fomenting unrest without a plan isn't the answer. We already have one Libya, and both it and Iraq are long-term disaster scenes. Better to avoid creating a vacuum that Russia or China could walk right in to. Carrying out diplomacy on the front pages of the NYT is a fool's choice.

Years after Nixon was out of office he visited Oxford and spoke to a group of students there. Almost all of it was Q & A and he didn’t miss a beat. Surprisingly he was funny at times.

He responded to one question about putting our morals on other countries and that it wasn’t the right way to go about it - at least publicly. Kennedy or Johnson or somebody must have called for the Soviets to allow the Jews to leave for Israel and made a big public deal about it.

Nixon said trying to shame Russia into it publicly was the wrong way to do it. He said he never spoke publicly about Jews in Russia. The press would give him a hard time. Said that he hated Jews, why doesn’t he do anything, etc.

But - personally he would bring the Jews into the various negotiations quietly. At the end he had some crazy numbers. Under Kennedy(?) the number of Jews allowed to leave was in the hundreds. With Nixon, iirc it was in the tens of thousands that were allowed to leave.

Anyone upset over Khashoggi doesn’t understand that part of the world, and looks at them through a Western lens. Which is ultimately very, very misleading. There are basically no good guys involved. The Saudis got rid of a Muslim Brotherhood operative they saw as a threat, but did it very inartfully.

There was a thread on this yesterday wherein 10mm gave a brilliant short summary:

“Can someone tell me why I’m supposed to care that a terrorist nation had a terrorist murdered in another terrorist nation?
I’m more concerned with why the Washington Post had a known terrorist on their payroll.”

And further, in that other terrorist nation, Turkey, Erdogan has done worse to real journalists, yet somehow they’re still in NATO.

It’s obvious now ... even to a blind man .... to see that the powers behind the stolen election wants war at any cost.

The media coverage of the Kashoggi story always makes it sound like he was a Washington Post reporter who was abducted by Saudi agents in D.C. and transported to Turkey as a prisoner.

We have no idea how Khashoggi died.

The guy was 62 years old and borderline obese.

For all we know, the guy tried to sprint or fight his way out of the embassy and had a heart attack or stroke.

The Royal family could have hired a hit squad to kill this guy any place in the world.

Instead, the Family decided to murder him in a Saudi embassy and chop him up?

Sorry - I will never believe that.

There are a lot of bad actors in foreign politics. Unless you want to make WWIII, one has to deal with them, sometimes holding the nose.
The art is to pick the ones who are willing to be your allies. In middle east, Saudi Arabia is and always was our willing ally. Since Carter made Khomeini the boss in Iran, Iran has been our enemy, and until regime change there, it will be. Obamanites seem hell bent on appeasing Iran, but it has not worked and will not work.
Until regime change in Iran, we should hold our nose and work with Saudis. This was super stupid!

Nobody cares as long as the spice flows. Just look at how all the presidents turn a blind eye on China. Decade after decade of abuse and attacks on our interest and nobody cares. As long as companies can outsource plants there.

Same with ksa. You can actually be a Christian or Jew in Iran. Try that in KSA. There are multiple synagogues and churches in Iran.
