Months after former President Trump's election defeat, Arizona legislative Republicans are challenging the outcome as they embark on an unprecedented effort to audit the results.
The state Senate used its subpoena power to take possession of all ballots in Maricopa County and machines that counted them. They've handed the materials over to Cyber Ninjas, a Florida-based consultancy with no election experience run by a man who has shared unfounded conspiracy theories claiming the official 2020 presidential election results are illegitimate.
The process is alarming election professionals who fear the auditors are not up to the task and will undermine faith in democracy.
Conspiracy theories about the election have proliferated even before President Joe Biden’s victory but have had particular staying power in Arizona.
Trump predicted the audit would reveal fraud and prompt similar reviews in other states he lost.
Cyber Ninjas plans to have teams of three people manually count each ballot, looking only at the presidential and U.S. Senate contests, which were won by Democrats.
The audit has been beset by amateur mistakes that critics view as evidence the auditors are not up to the task. Election experts said hand counts are prone to errors. Maricopa County conducted a host of pre- and post-election reviews to check the accuracy of voting machines. The county also hired two auditing firms that reported no malicious software or incorrect counting equipment and concluded that none of the computers were connected to the internet

The Democrats do this EVERY election, every primary. Why is it suddenly a dangerous threat to democracy when Republicans do it once? The Democrats did it the day after Trump won in 2016 (Russia, Russia, Russia). It was ok for them to refuse to accept an election and start a “resistance.” Our side doesn’t do riots. We don’t burn cars and apartment buildings, we don’t loot the stores in our neighborhoods. But we might try to have our day in court.

What a misleading statement. They make it sound like they are the only firm doing the auditing. There are 4 firms in total that are doing the auditing.

I never thought the claims were bogus; the media keeps calling the audit in AZ as “baseless.”

Expectations, some ballots are so clean that a Citizen could not have handled the ballot and filled in his vote.
It looks like mostly a recount. If there are manufactured ballots they will be counted. I think this is the largest fraud which will not be uncovered unless an audit is done of the mailing process. printing logs, mail logs in and out and voter database update logs. If there were forced scanning errors due to machine manipulation causing batch adjudication (batch overdies for biden and dems) then this audit/recount should find those discrepancies. I’m not hopeful.
