Panama City is being flooded with new residents. This comes as housing has not recovered completely from Hurricane Michael. Housing prices are soaring. Houses near me that rented for 8-900 month three years ago are getting 15-2500 now.

New Hampshire isn’t so surprising. A lot of people from Massachusetts are moving up there, plus the employment climate there is good, probably better than in most of the other Northeastern states.

Real estate prices are so high in San Francisco and Silicon Valley that Santa Cruz may be where people who work there and have money — but not big money — end up.

I HATE Horde (World of Warcraft). They are like Palestinians (terrorists).

Not many Somalis in the Panhandle yet. Seen a few around Lake Coeur d’Alene. Boy, do they stick out! They stick to themselves, too. A couple of the local progressive ministries have taken them in.

The flights out of Spokane are amazingly affordable. Right now it’s $59 one-way from Spokane to Oakland, CA. That round trip is about half of what it costs us to drive it! The Spokane airport is only 40 minutes from our house, so it’s always an easy trip to the airport.

So many companies are allowing remote work now that your son and wife might be able to find remote, high-paying jobs in the area. Our neighbor behind us worked for Symantec for a long time in a high-paying sales management job. He got CA salary with Idaho cost of living. Can’t beat that! Another neighbor of our took early retirement in his late 50s. He managed big bridge construction projects and he’s picking up some consulting gigs now that don’t require a lot of travel.

Realtor.com says CdA went up 80% last year! We’ve seen a lot of price appreciation, but I’m skeptical about 80%. Up until 3 or 4 years ago, it was very affordable. All the out-of-state money is messing it all up.

We bought our house north of Coeur d’Alene three years ago and we think it is up maybe 50%. Idaho does not make actual sales prices public, so you have to go on what the insiders (realtors) are saying. Thank God we bought when we did. We couldn’t do it today.

We have a number of friends who left the Bay Area for Seascape, Aptos and surrounding towns.

Lafayette is near several lakes and Purdue. It’s a very nice community. I have friends that live there. Also decent access to Chicago for flights.

Springfield doesn’t have the lakes that are close to Lafayette, at least that I know of, but it is a nice community. It did surprise me, though.

We are the same way with our location in Californicator land.

One son and his family are 30/45 minutes away and the other family is 45-60 minutes away.

Here in California, we have great neighbors, some good friends going back decades. A great church that is re opening.

Our siblings in the midwest/southwest have the same good things going for them. None of us want to fly anymore. We talk on the phone weekly and send a lot of texts and emails.
We do miss the personal contact, but our parents and grandparents would have loved to be alive now with the ability to reach and touch their loved ones electronically 24/7.
