A shooting near a Juneteenth celebration in Northern California on Saturday evening left at least one person dead and several others wounded, police said.
Shots rang out after around 1,000 people had gathered at Lake Merritt in Oakland for the holiday commemorating the historical end of slavery. Bullets struck six victims between ages 16 and 27, Oakland Police said in a statement.
A 22-year-old victim died of his wounds at a hospital, the department confirmed.
Two armed men seen running from the scene were arrested, the department said. Homicide investigators were determining if the men were the shooters.
"Tonight a joyous occasion at our Lake Merritt was marred by a senseless act of gun violence," Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said in a statement, according to the East Bay Times. "Police in the area tended to victims, and apprehended two people with firearms near the scene. The investigation is ongoing and will determine if they are connected to the shooting. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims, and I want to thank our officers for a quick response."
The victims’ conditions were not immediately disclosed.
Witnesses said a group of people were arguing before the shooting, FOX 2 of the Bay Area reported, citing social media sources.

You won’t find anything on google. google has already scrubbed all references to violence by celebrators of juneteenth. but DuckDuckGo hasn’t. You’ll find a few references to what really happens on juneteenth using DuckDuckGo. Same internet, same searchstring, different results. google added code to eliminate any result that shows that there is violence by the people who celebrate juneteenth.
This new “holiday” is an embarrassment.
Are we going to use cute contractions for the real holidays too?
Thanksgiving could be “Thanksing” and we could pronounce Good Friday “Goofday”.
Independence Day could be “Julourth”.

Juneteenth = AK Day
“Juneteenth,” is now a National Holiday so declared by SloJo. Juneteenth is a commemoration of the abolition of slavery, celebrated first in Galveston, TX, and continuously since 6/19/1865. This is probably a better candidate for National Holiday than MLK Day was. Announcing it now just seems like political posturing by the Party of Slavery, Reconstruction, KKK, Jim Crow, The Great Society, opposition to the Civil Rights Act, the BLM and on and on. A great portion of the black community has never left the plantation. Just the ownership has changed. In all this, there ought to be a National Holiday for Booker T Washington and the Tuskegee Institute, which showed the way off the plantation to those who would take it.
