A New Jersey gym owner who federal prosecutors say was among the initial group of people to forcefully enter the Capitol building on Jan. 6 has become the first riot defendant to plead guilty to assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Scott Kevin Fairlamb, who was previously indicted on 12 counts, pleaded guilty Friday in a remote hearing to one count of obstruction of an official proceeding and another for "assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers," the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia confirmed to The Hill.

The 44-year-old, who has been in jail since his Jan. 22 arrest, will appear in a sentencing hearing on Sept. 27, where he faces a maximum punishment of more than 20 years in prison.

Poor guy, he doesn’t stand a chance against the doj without $10M for legal cost. Where’s Barns and the rest of the lawyers taking these case pro-bono? And what about his congressional representatives? These worthless politicians just leave their constituents to twist in the wind. They are not worth dog shit.

scratchin my head why this wasn’t fought tooth and nail.
The plea agreement has to include a sentence the guy can live with, otherwise, why plead? tho the judge can ignore the recommendation.

Yes...I got the point you were making. And I would agree.

That GIF doesn’t display well, but...it does show a gate being opened by Capitol Police and the protesting public being let in.

I admit to being a bit non-plussed by the charges against many of these people in light of the many videos showing this, and the nonchalant relaxed behavior of many of the Capitol Police in still images chatting with protestors.

Not everyone has personal experience in DC or with Feds in general, like you spent an entire paragraph relating. Common sense and personal experience are not the same thing.

20 years in federal prison? WOW...

As we all know, many cases of privileged criminals end up with brief or nonexistent sentences given. And so many actual murderers get out after a handful of years.

Question: What is the average time served in prison?

13.4 years By offense type, the median time served was 13.4 years for murder, 2.2 years for violent crimes excluding murder, 17 months for drug trafficking, and 10 months for drug possession.

Another source: U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Statistics

Most violent offenders (57%) released from state prison in 2016 served less than three years in prison before their initial release. About 1 in 25 violent offenders (3.6%) served 20 years or more before their initial release. These findings are based on prisoner records from the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ National Corrections Reporting Program (NCRP), which collects records on prison admissions and releases. All statistics in this report are based on state

Innocent until proven guilty.

Free men do not “plead.” We became the dominant species on the planet because we killed animals and ate them.

20 years in federal prison....

This is to have a chilling effect on anyone conservative trying to peaceably protest (along with agent provocateurs, FBI agents and unstable people who are on the fringe ahead of the average innocent protesters).

BUT all the articles following up on looting, vandalism, burning of buildings, shooting lasers into officers eyes, burning police cars and deliberate planning and executive on shutdowns of business districts as illegally closed “CHOP” areas, have headlines such as “No jail time” “No arrests” “No sentencing for prison time” in many BLM and Antifa style atrocities. A few recent articles on “arrests” ended up with a week in jail or let go after time served on the day of arraignment waiting for the process to be done. Bid punishment./s

Double standard.

It means we WANT to have a chilling effect on the Leftists who destroy our country. But we GET a chilling effect only on conservatives. Just as after Oklahoma City. “Who me? A conservative? I dintsaynuffin.”

[[”assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers,”]]

So what was it? Assaulting? Impeding? Resisting?

Do antifa and blm get over 20 years in prison when they assault police officers all over the US? Do they get over 20 years when resisting arrest? When impeding an officer?

Note the conflation of offenses: “assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers,” Or, or , or. So, did he plead out to all or just one? If just “impeading” how about a ticket?
My guess is the the reporter on this doesn’t know his arse from whatever and couldn’t care less. He just wanted to report that the DJTrump terrorists were getting what they deserved.

“one count of obstruction of an official proceeding and another for “assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers,”

Yeah, but what did he actually DO? Did he close the door behind him...or did he hit a cop with a baseball bat?

And, perhaps more importantly, what else was he charged with and what evidence did DOJ have to support them? He and his lawyers would have been aware of that as they pondered the government’s offer.

I’m thinkin’ one day the possibility exists Trump will be elected and pardon these people. Though he’d never say it in advance of the election.

Because what they did was not materially different than the Kavanaugh “protestors”. And the level of the charges entirely unwarranted.

For some reason Republicans in Washington are unable to mention that salient fact.

[[The plea agreement has to include a sentence the guy can live with, otherwise, why plead?]]

They were blackmailing him with several other charges which likely would have given him a great many more years in prison

We no longer have a fair and balanced objective legal system- we have a legal system that blackmails conservative political prisoners-

20 years in federal prison? WOW...

It's what they do to political prisoners. If these leftists are not stopped, it will be 20 years in a gulag somewhere north of Fairbanks.

What are the “powers that be” doing about rounding up and prosecuting the hundreds of protesters from last summer that are responsible of billions in damages and human suffering?

It’s and interesting comparison.

The protest on Jan 6 lasted but a few hours. The protests from last summer went on for days, night after night of destruction.

My recollection is that in the Federal system, there is no time off for "good behavior." You will serve 80% of your sentence at minimum.

That means this guy gets at least 16 years behind bars for punching a cop.

20 is the maximum sentence. We will see what he actually gets on Sept 27th. 20 years would be a travesty. Hopefully it’s much less.
