‘Absolutely absurd’: [LASD Sheriff] Villanueva blasts L.A. County vaccine mandate

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved a vaccine mandate for all county employees that went into effect on Oct. 1, and Villanueva has previously said he does not plan to enforce the mandate.

On Thursday, Villanueva took his concerns to the public, noting that “homicides continued to rise” and might continue to do so, while as much as “20%-30% of [the Sheriff’s Department] workforce is no longer available to provide service” with the mandate in place.

“The Board’s vaccination mandate is causing a mass exodus within the Department, which is an absolutely absurd result … We are experiencing an increase in unscheduled retirements, worker compensation claims, employees quitting, and a reduction in qualified applicants."

Villanueva noted that he is vaccinated and he believes the vaccine works, but the decision should be left to individuals.

Sounds like a week’s worth of “blue flu” might get the message across.

At first I didn’t like him much at all. What turned my opinion around was his reaction to the other absurd mandate that forbid people from having Thanksgiving gatherings. He went public and said not to bother calling and reporting on neighbors. He made it clear his deputies would not be answering those calls. Then he cleaned up the Venice beach area of the hundreds of homeless people camped out there, when the LAPD refused to do anything about it.
Good for him!

Good on those county sheriffs!

Now, for the city cops in those counties; will they follow suit?

One still can’t go in a restaurant without a shots pass.

That needs to end, as well as requirements on any other locations.

Seems like a nation-wide tipping point is about to happen soon, with these mandates.

Yea, for L.A., given its current state of politicians and voters, it’s amazing that this guy is in office.

I think he had a profound change when the county tried to tell Angelenos they couldn’t have Thanksgiving gatherings in 2020. That really set him off. He’s Hispanic and they generally have large extended families that love to get together at Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was angry and told any ‘Karens’ out there not to waste their time calling his deputies to report on their neighbors. Now he’s telling people to bug off about the vaccine mandates. It’s no secret a lot of Latino people do NOT want the vaccine, as well as many black people. I will vote for this man’s reelection if he runs again.

Yea, if I lived in L.A., he’d have my vote and financial support.

For L.A., he is the definition of rock star in my book!

Commmie filth in the democrat party will be enraged Sheriff] Villanueva is standing with the people and sanity... doesn’t take much for the lying scum to get pissed, but this should do it. (ever wonder why over 90% of prison inmates are democrats? Both groups are criminals...)

One still can’t go in a restaurant without a shots pass.

I was in Orange County (and LA) back in September - and not a single restaurant, grocery store, 7-11, bar, SoFi Stadium, etc. asked me about my “shot” status. Not a single one. I hung a mask on one ear, and walked around like that in the grocery store for anyone clutching their pearls, but no one did. At the restaurants and bars, again, not a single reaction.

Thank God he’s Miami’s problem now

Huh, I knew they were having problems with him - I didn’t know they fired him.

Good for them, I guess. He’ll land somewhere, they always do.

Alex is a life-long Democrat, but with low-key and small l libertarian leanings. But, he was the outsider candidate to replace Leroy Baca, a lifelong “Republican” and liberal flack. The Democrat power base in LA have had Alex in their sights from the moment he declared his candidacy, but he’s turning out to be a tougher nut to crack than anyone had anticipated.

At this point, he’s showing better political instincts than any of the elected clowns on the Board of Supervisors, and watching them run around in circles with their hands up in the air is a glorious sight to behold!
