Not to Rain on Our Parade, But... Not everything about the Virginia election heralds something good for Republicans.

Like all rational Americans, I was happy with the results of the Virginia gubernatorial election this past Tuesday.  However, I’m not optimistic, one reason being that a photo-finish victory against a sleazy establishment bagman in a state that a decade ago was reliably red is an indication that we dodged a bullet rather than pulled ahead of the pack.

Youngkin’s surprise comeback can be attributed solely to the freak occurrence of the issue of critical race theory arising at just the right time in just the right place to swing just enough votes his way.  A month, or a county, in either direction might well have nullified this accidental advantage.

Will Youngkin keep his word and take on critical race theory in schools?  We shall see.  Roughly half of Virginia voters apparently have no problem with their kids’ schools operating as racist indoctrination centers, and who knows how many “Republican” Mitt Romneys and John McCains will sit in this upcoming 51-49 legislative session. Still, I wanted to gauge the reaction of both sides before I offered any commentary.

So it's been a few days.  How are Leftists translating this election?

Virginia was a great victory!

It’s so depressing……../s

I actually expected the Debbie Downers to be out in force sooner.
But, they made it.

“Remember when Massachusetts of all places elected Scott Brown? A fat lot of good it did us. The Democrats ignored the voters, rammed Obamacare through anyway, and snickered as Massachusetts inevitably reverted back to blue in the next election.”

Scott Brown could have stopped Obamacare in its tracks. Scott Brown voted to let the legislation continue. He was sent there to stop it. He didn’t. He wasn’t re-elected. The voters didn’t forget. Even the voters of New Hampshire didn’t forget when he carpetbagged in that state.

True. I was feeling so good about our nation until Friday night when the RINOS bastards pull the rug underneath us. But we can do it we did it in Virginia we did it in Texas in the most bluest city where the corruption is through the roof. But we will never succeed while that fat lazy chairwoman McDaniel is on that chair! We need to start the rally call to unseat her ...either be by a recall petition whatever it takes she needs to go. She is part of the major problems we are having in the party she has taken the side of the elites and not the people.. she needs to go ASAP before 2022.

McDaniel is elected by the Party.

There is a Board that can unseat her, but the general public has no say except for our pocket books…….

The price of liberty is eternal vigilance. Many FReepers call me a chicken little for downplaying any significance of last week, but I believe even if we painted the entire nation red, coast to coast, border to border, I still believe we haven’t done enough.

There’s a reason why republics failed throughout history. People are generally lazy, and any system where prosperity is on the menu means people generally become lackadaisical. Now we’re in a situation where any win, even by slim margins, is cause for celebration. We’re celebrating obscurity. We should be running the scoreboard on Democrats, not celebrating a game-winning field goal with 2 seconds left on the clock.

Socialists, communists, Democrats... they don’t stop. They’re going to gnash their teeth and fight and cheat and steal. They only understand overwhelming power and strength.

Why weren't Virginia (and national) Republicans warning us about the political trajectory of Virginia?

Did they know Virginia was at risk of turning blue? If they did why didn't they make it an issue and allocate resources to fight the Democrats?

If Virginia (and national) Republicans didn't know about the trajectory of Virginia turning blue, why didn't they know?

What's going on in Republican circles that they don't seem to know what Democrats are doing and aren't doing much to counter their threat?

2022 and 2024 are approaching. Republicans can't wait for the day AFTER they lose the election to question why they lost.

Democrats are fighting to win the long-game. Republicans don't seem to realize there's a fight.

Not to mention that McAuliffe beat a black woman, Jennifer Carroll Foy, in the Dem primary and had the endorsement of Ralph “Coon Man” Northam himself.

Right...I certainly don’t trust him any more than I do a Dem pol. He might very well be a Paul Ryan Mitt Romney George W Bush-type.

Yep, what’s up with that? Weren’t the Democrat voters racist in their own primary, to reject a black woman in favor of a Clintonista retread? Media types never talk about that.

It would have been obvious had a 3 AM tide of tens of thousands of votes from Democratic run cities and counties pulled McAuliffe over the top. Had Youngkin been a MAGA type rather than a moderate, the powers that be might have done a blatant steal. The Deep State does not want to drive more conservatives away from Conservatism, Inc. (Fox News, Salem Broadcasting, etc.) into the alternative media camp (Alex Jones, Joe Rogan, Brighteon.com, etc.). A blatant, in your face steal as occurred last year would decrease the credibility of Conservatism, Inc., and increase that of the alternative media.

It looks like the Democrats are doing a steal in New Jersey, but that state has been notoriously corrupt, q.v, the HBO series, Boardwalk Empire, set in Atlantic City a century ago. But Virginia's leftward slide is explained by demographic changes. So a flip that can be blamed on an incompetent candidate like McAuliffe is akin to other liberal states like Maryland occasionally electing a Republican governor.

But if I didn't know better, the writer comes off like someone paid to depress people.

I bet the writer complains that Whole Foods doesn't sell gluten-free paper towels.

To be a Republican and not be cynical is to be naïve at best, dopey at worst.

Some of these people are deeply committed to the eeyore syndrome. I don’t know if it’s a coping mechanism or something more sinister.

Every loss is not fraud. Mail-in vote is here. I don’t like it, but it is here. Those ballots trickle in over time. The mail-in vote is very, very Blue. (In Virginia it was 50 points D, compared to the 14 point R Election Day vote.)

NJ and PA have a lot of Democrat mail-in votes. If it is here to stay, the GOP can do two things.

1. Put Florida level controls on the mail-in vote, and require it to be opened and counted first before election day.

2. Actually encourage Republicans who wouldn’t normally bother to go out on election day to vote, to vote using mail-in ballots, because they are easy to use. The Ds target these low information, low propensity voters. The GOP needs to do the same.

I wouldn't be shocked. We'll see. The worst part is that blue haired, 70 y/o cat women of the Republican party won't care. They like the R after a name. Nothing else matters.
