U.S. considers turning an 1890 antitrust law against OPEC to steer oil price
World Oil ^ | 11/18/21 | Ari Natter

Posted on 11/19/2021 10:34:23 AM PST by Sequoyah101

Some U.S. lawmakers are seizing on the energy price surge to revive long-standing legislation that would subject the OPEC oil cartel to the same antitrust laws used more than century ago to break up Standard Oil’s monopoly.

Stupid is the only response that comes to mind. These people are nothing but stupid political creatures. They aren't even ignorant. They are just plain stupid. It is, I don't have words, for how horrible it is for them to be in charge. Is it any wonder we are in a perpetual state of chaos?

I spent 42 years in the oil business. Drilling, producing, financing, marketing; doing just about everything it takes to get oil and natural gas from the rocks to the refinery. I've survived at least 9 downturns and layoff cycles. Just about half the 42 years was bad times and the other recovering or good times. I claim I know a thing or two about the oil business.

I can't imagine just how far OPEC would tell the just-us department to stick it and how high fuel prices would go.

Do these idiots realize that OPEC is not a US domestic corporation? That it’s headquartered in Vienna? That’s in Austria for the govt employees out there. They don’t speak Austrian there either.

Whoever wrote the article...ought to name the political people talking about this. Total fantasy and unrealistic. But it just shows the juvenile behavior you have going on in DC.

What, our laws are now going to extend to foreign countries? Have we claimed universal jurisdiction over the space-time continuum?

I didn’t say enough.

These people are insane, they are certifiable. They are dangerous. They need to be put in straight jackets, carried away and locked up.

They are not capable of managing their own affairs let alone ours.

It’d be much easier to just drill and pipeline, as Trump had us doing. But of course, leftist Commies like Biden and Kumala can’t allow cheap available energy to exist. It gives the proles too much mobility.

Pathetic. We were self-sufficient in energy production before our drooling, senile fool of a president was placed there by his handlers. Now we’re back to the ‘70s fantasies of getting OPEC to do what we want. Democrats are garbage wrapped in skin.

We do have idiots running our government.

They are going to offend beyond tolerance the few allies we have in that area while at the same time making life miserable for the US citizens, trying to force OPEC to do something for us that we would not do for them.

When all our government would need to do to solve the energy problem is to step back and let the industry do its normal thing...which is to work like mad to supply the buyer at a reasonable price.

The starting point is as always “Drill, baby, drill”.

OPEC doesn’t answer to the USA. They can simply impose an oil embargo in response.

I’m still not through.

If the oil barrons of the ME think this might actually happen, that their assets might be held hostage, they would sell off and shove off from U.S. investments. The market shock would have people jumping out of windows.

My hat’s off to you sir. I know almost nothing about the oil industry but I often get on my soap box about it. The oil companies have a very small profit margin compared to high tech companies like Apple.

And what do oil companies do with their profits? They use them to venture to the harshest climates on Earth to find more oil so that everyone, liberals included, can heat their homes and drive their cars.

And have their iphones (plastics needed) and every other thing.

And oil drilling is a dangerous job!!
