Massive looting in San Francisco’s central Union Square on Friday evening led local police to limit car access to the plaza, which is the centerpiece of the downtown area and one of the most popular tourist destinations on the cable car route. The San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday that gangs of looters emptied out high-end stores the night before, including Louis Vuitton.

San Francisco has been at the forefront of left-wing cities in “criminal justice reform” and police reform. Earlier this year, the mayor announced that the city would redistribute over $100 million from law enforcement to projects aimed at helping the black community, though the final budget increased police funding.

[My Take - how I would report this ...]

The looting of San Francisco's Union Square stores on Friday, 19 November '21, has prompted outrage and promises of action by SF City 'Leaders'. High-end stores like Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry and Bloomingdales were all hit while there were also closely timed robberies at other places in the city including Walgreens and several cannabis retailers.

Mayor London Breed warned, “We can’t allow that to happen. If you come to our city to commit these types of crimes, you will be held accountable.” Police Chief Bill Scott added, “We’ve all just had enough, this has to end.” Meanwhile, San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin [active recall in progress] tweeted, “Stand by for felony charges.”

Since the videos showed cars at the curb in front of the stores as the looters did their Christmas shopping, SF will [now] limit car access to Union Square. At this time, while multiple arrests have been made, no one has managed to interview any of these 'free-form' shoppers for their reasons. Experts expect a vigorous defense will be made on their behalf as almost all of the businesses have derived from rampant white supremacy, colonialism, racism and climate change. Several observers pointed out that these disturbances followed the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse and praised the participants for a mostly peaceful protest.

H L Mencken (1880-1956) understates but then again he has been dead for 66 years! California VOTERS passed Prop.47 in 2014; "to reduce certain non-violent felonies to misdemeanors in order to free up resources for cops and prosecutors to go after serious, violent offenders." Thus now, shoplifting for $0-950 is a misdemeanor and so this looting spree and its predecessors are a shock to these 'leaders'!

Now we see a reason why SanFranNan has been rumored to be looking around FLORIDA for a retirement place. Just coincidence, right?

A number of years ago I submitted a what’s called “micro fiction” story (a story with a severe word count limit) to a magazine and it was rejected. Not a big deal, but the reason they gave!

The story involved a young guy who works in a pizza parlor having a crush on a girl he always sees dumpster-diving. He knows she’s a prostitute and a heroin addict. He doesn’t want to shame her by trying to meet her on the street, which is where he always sees her. However, he gets a chance because she calls in an order for take-out to his restaurant, just before closing time. (So there might be a chance that the unclaimed pizza will get thrown out and she can rescue it from the dumpster, which she has done before.)

So the kid arranges to be out in the alley after closing doing some sweeping and sees this chick in the dumpster. He politely accosts her and says that he was thinking of going to a steak house down the street for dinner and would she like to have a steak instead of dumpster pizza?

The gal gives him an entitled answer, that she is wearing a scarf that costs $700 and why would she want to go somewhere with a guy that makes $9.50 an hour? She walks to a waiting car with the pizza and the guy stands there. (end)

Reason for rejection: If she can afford a scarf that costs $700, WHY IS SHE DUMPSTER DIVING? No lie!

Punch line: The character was based on someone I actually knew and had known for years. She and her friends/family delighted in stealing from very high-end department stores. They bragged about it. They were also homeless prostitutes, panhandlers, and drug addicts who scorned people with real jobs.

That’s the Left for you! (Although some of them are aware that street people, bums, junkies, criminals, and psychos are the Left’s true army!)

Elitist politicians like this mayor have allowed barbarians to run wild in cities and towns stealing, raping, pillaging, plundering, burning and killing. Streets are filled with feces. Average productive citizens and small businesses have been victims of violence from the unrestrained barbarians for years.

Now the mob as arrived at the stores frequented by the elites. Suddenly the mayor says this won’t be allowed to happen. He claims he will hold criminals accountable when they get too close to his friends and associates.

I think that they are learning, by personal experience, the perils of 'Virtuous Voting'! The old Warner/Quinn Martin "Streets of San Francisco" (1972-77) TV Series would have to be entirely redone for today's SF AND, in this case, SF is how that previous generation would regard SF's current DEGENERATION! Maybe, while tip-toeing through the turds, they will get a clue, but I am an optimist!

People don't beleive that jerks like you describe actually exist, but I do. Years ago, I drove cab in the little college town of Moorhead, Minnesota.

One of my regulars was a black gal who lived at a seedy motel on the east side of town and worked as a go-go dancer, one was a bar in the industrial district of neighboring Fargo, N.D. which was near the graveyard shift of foundaries and little assembly plants just getting off.

Then, toward the close of my day shift, I took her to downtown Moorhead on the north side of the Minnesota State University campus. She told me the tips were great because black gals were a novelty there especially in the wintertime. I'm sure it didn't hurt that she was cute as well.

She always asked for me by name and told me the reason she did so was because I treated her with respect and didn't seem to look down on her for her chosen profession. When I finally worked up the nerve to ask why a pretty intelligent lady chose that line of work, she told me about the background of the 'hood in Minneapolis that she came from and just the type of people you mentioned that she needed to escape from. In addition to the good tips, her dance club work seemed like the quickest way out, she told me.

This was back in the late 1970s. I can only imagine how much worse things have gotten since.
