A black man in Tennessee will get a new trial after being convicted by an all-white jury who deliberated in a room adorned with Confederate symbols.
Tim Gilbert, who was sentenced to six years in prison in 2020 for aggravated assault and other charges stemming from a December 2018 dispute, was granted a new trial Friday by the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals.
An attorney for Gilbert argued his right to a fair trial was violated because the jury deliberated in a room at the Giles County courthouse with an antique Confederate flag and a portrait of Confederate President Jefferson Davis hanging on a wall.

Total nonsense.
Ridiculousness
NEXT-—Complaints about the walls being painted WHITE...
Paper they are using/reading is WHITE.....
No doubt, you are right.
Can we get out of something if we see a BLM button in the courtroom? As on the judge’s robe?
Heard someone in the room whistling the theme to the Dukes of Hazzard.
It gets worse. The water cooler? Dixie cups.
So, how many mockingbirds were killed?

It is odd that Tennessee would have a picture of a Mississippian on the wall. And in that photo, that picture does not even look like Davis.
Perfect music for bustin up old chiffarobes.
Good point.
Ok, so we BAN Any and ALL Demcrats from ever being on a Jury because of thier past Racism
Giles County borders Alabama and not far from Mississippi.
Tennessee’s “Three Grand Divisions” are rather different from one another. Not much love for the Confederacy in East Tennessee, especially the northern part. You see it more in rural counties of West Tennessee and the southernmost counties of Middle Tennessee.
Perhaps he would feel better with a blue ceiling and stars in it, as was the Palace of Westminster in England, a Star Chamber.

Jefferson Davis was born in southern Kentucky, not far from the Tennessee state line.
Oh, the horror!
Note to courts. When trying a black person, put the jury in a room with African tribal masks adorning the walls.
But I guess deliberations of a white defendant in a room with pictures of MLK, Obama, Jackson, BLM flag, slaves etc would be a-ok.
They are so fragile and thin skinned.
