Exclusive — Rep. Ralph Norman: Biden Administration ‘at War with All Faith-Based Agencies’
Breitbart ^ | 12/24/21 | Katherine Hamilton

emocrat President Joe Biden seems to be “at war with all faith-based agencies” — including foster and adoption agencies that wish to operate according to their religious beliefs, Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) told Breitbart News.

During an exclusive phone interview on Tuesday, the congressman discussed at length an effort he is leading with Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and more than 100 other Republican lawmakers to pressure the Biden administration over its November decision to rescind waivers to faith-based adoption and foster agencies in South Carolina, Texas, and Michigan, which let them operate according to their religious beliefs by allowing them not to place children with same-sex and unmarried couples. The rescission, which has nationwide impact, means faith-based agencies will either be forced to forego their beliefs to obtain federal funding, or face closing altogether.

Accept federal funds, accept federal controls. It's always been that way and it always will be.

Then don’t take federal funding. Problem solved.

Why do these groups need federal funding to begin with? Faith-based agencies should be relying on donations from their community. This is where the country has gotten completely screwed up. Adoption & foster care shouldn’t be a federal issue & federal dollars should not be needed (or provided).

Jill Biden has regularly attended Mass with her husband at St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine in Greenville, Delaware. Whether she has ever formally converted to Catholicism or explicitly identifies as a Catholic has not been made public.

Her parents labeled themselves as “agnostic realists” and did not attend church, but she often attended Sunday services at a Presbyterian church with her grandmother.

Later, she took membership classes at nearby Abington Presbyterian Church and at age 16, was confirmed.

Not really, just aware that the case in question does not apply here. The religious organizations are not being sanctioned because they are religious organizations but because of what the government views as discriminatory practices.

Exactly. If you need government money to remain solvent then you aren’t a religious organization … so this whole discussion is academic.

Someone tell local mosque. The attacks will commence.

As a result of their religious beliefs. Let them take it to the USSC. Sodomy doesn’t trump religious freedom.

As a result of their religious beliefs.

When their religious beliefs violate the law the the government is going to question them. If they don't want the government to interfere then don't go to the feds for funding.

Not having access to federal funds puts them at a competitive disadvantage.

My proposal: no federal funds for anyone. Take the feds out of the foster care and adoption field. As a start. I would then proceed to zero out all of HHS.

I understand that. But if you accept federal funds you accept the restrictions that go with it. It has always been that way.

In a perfect world perhaps. But until then it is what it is.

When the First Amendment is violated, the USSC can negate the law as they’ve done in Nifla v. Becerra, Fulton v. Philadelphia, etc. I have confidence that the decision will reflect the thinking of Justice Thomas and not you.

Their First Amendment rights are not being violated. They are free to practice their beliefs as they wish. But federal money is not guaranteed to them by the Constitution.

There is not and should not be a religious test for federal money.
