Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has been found guilty on 4 counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud after 7 days of jury deliberation. I almost said that she created an image of being the young female Steve Jobs, with her ‘I wear the same thing every day’ black shirt and, instead of jeans, khakis. This when everyone was worshipping Steve Jobs like he was some sort of tech messiah. She played those fools like a fiddle.

“Bad Blood” was an interesting book about her.

Equal opportunity among stock fraudsters, a market that had previously been cornered by a certain ethnicity of white males.

The difference is that he was and made insanely great products.

I don't know...she's way too good looking for that.. Some kind of backroom deal will transpire and she'll get off with maybe a year's worth of "community service". What that service might be is anyone's guess...

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, she is most likely to get about 15 years (with no parole eligibility in federal court).

Will she start speaking in her regular voice from now on?

She didn’t have any stock to sell. She settled with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2018.

The bottom fell out way back in 2015 (as detailed in your link). That would have been the time to bail if she was going to do it. The SEC didn't step in until two and a half years later.

Way too good looking? Have you seen that woman’s eyes and facial expressions? She’s Mark Zuckerberg in a blonde wig and black turtleneck! And she had a voice to match, too.

She knew her machines didn’t work and what blood they did process (they had a contract with Walgreens, IIRC) they did it with conventional blood testing machines. It was a scam and she knew every bit of it

“The bottom fell out way back in 2015”

Then the only question is how much did she squirrel away in off shore accounts before the bottom dropped out. She probably has millions hidden away in the Caymans.

If she was smart she would have done that. I don't get that impression of her though. I think she was delusional. I think in her mind she thought they would eventually work out the bugs and then all the lies would be covered up and everything would be OK.

I was a software developer for thirty years. People get a fantasy of great wealth and success in their heads and sometimes it takes a sheriff with an eviction order to shake them out of it.

I have been thinking about this.

Having been in “bad” companies before, Theranos seems like among the worst. But it was NOT unique in the pharma sphere.

I read Bad Blood, and it amused me a bit. In some places, her actions would have lead to a revolt on the shop floor, but I gathered the west coast operates more on fear than other places.

My point is she got slammed because she defrauded the elite.

The financial press was so enthusiastic to pump up a self-made billionairess they made little attempt at the due diligence they would have subjected J. Random Dude who was making similar claims.
