This is why drones and amazon are the future. And maybe a resurgence of cargo trains. But lack of truckers is going to make it real tough to keep the lifestyle Americans are used to.

I never drove long haul, and so I never had to contend with such issues.

I could not express myself adequately on FR about how the state DOTs harass Truckers around the country because my salty language would compel the Mods to give me the hook in short order.

Send inside baseball info for everyone. The feds spent over a decade trying to devise a new hours of service rule for truck drivers. What they came up with was a one size fits all disaster. Truck drivers used to take a nap in the afternoon, then wake up and drive and eat dinner, then if they felt awake and could drive some more they might drive another three or four hours before resting. A hard 14 hour rule made that impossible. Once a driver starts in the morning his electronic log gives him 14 hours after which he must stop for 10. This means that it’s always a race to the truckstop before they fill up. And sleepy afternoons where they are forced to drive even though they would love to take a nap. This is what bureaucracy gets you. This is what idiots in suits and ties who’ve never actually driven a truck has wrought. Truck driver related accidents are up, not down.

I have been told that truckers, and trade workers, are not held in high esteem in on-line dating markets. Consequently, many young men don’t want to pursue these occupations.

How about no time and a half after 40. Days sometimes weeks on the road. Constantly monitored by DOT and LEO’s. Dispatchers who always blames everything on the driver when most of the time it is their screwup. Companies that do not maintain their equipment. Held over weekends/holidays to get unloaded without compensation. Putting up with shithead 4 wheeler drivers who brake check you for the fun of it and Swift drivers who should never ever be behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler.

Actually, the government ruined the job, just like it ruined teaching and is ruining nursing. Where once there were vocations, into which we could pour our energies serving God and our fellow man, now it is toil and paperwork above all. Instead of one potential micromanager to buzz around your head, there is now no end to them, there is a swarm, and the swarm never sleeps.

" A truck driver is 10 times more likely to be killed on the job than the average American worker, according to federal data."

Masked or unmasked?

Simple answer... 2 drivers. One drives, one sleeps. The truck keeps rolling along 24/7.

“The real reason America doesn’t have enough truck drivers.”

Better pay for less hassle in other professions.

I’m dependent on truck drivers because I’m a manufacturer.
Without them delivering materials, nothing would get done, more supply chain havoc would be the result.

However in America in 2022 we glorify the nonessential while looking down at the essential.
IMO its going to be a painful decade for non producers.
The supply chain problems are here to stay and the customer is always right crowd, will be thrashing around for scapegoats.

The scapegoat is right in front of the mirror, “Mr & Mrs do nothing” while being paid inflated salaries.
However, you have cotton in your ears and blinders on, so enjoy the ride.

There are youtube videos of semi truckers. Some say they make $10,000 a month after expenses.

They’re building untold acres of shipping warehouses around here. As of now, they’re mostly empty. Obviously they’ve got something in mind to use them for.

I've got a friend that is a logger who recently retired. He didn't retire because he was old, it just got too difficult to find truck drivers to find truck drivers to haul his timber to the mills. Between insurance regulations and DOT requirements they're running almost anyone who wants to drive a truck out of the business. The requirements for a CDL are just stupid. Get a ticket in the local speed trap for doing 35 in a 25 zone and you risk losing your CDL or becoming uninsurable. Have the local bimbo name you as her baby daddy and get slapped with child support you can't pay, lose your CDL. The DUI limit in most states is .08% but for a CDL holder it's .04% so you get a DUI if you're driving your toyota corolla back from dinner after one beer.

My logger friend says the rules are so crazy now that it's practically impossible to find blue collar guys who can legally drive his log trucks. He made the comment that before long the only people who would be able to hold a CDL were going to be women because the average man will be disqualified under all the stupid rules. Any guy with a clean enough record to keep a CDL will be unaffordable because he'll be so sought after.

It’s not only parking, restaurants, and bathrooms. It is also personal safety.
