I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. When I went through ‘Respiratory School’ there was a Physician who gave lectures on occasion. He spoke about the questions that he often received from his Audience.

‘What about flail chest?’ Help us understand Pneumo Thorax’ or Hemo Thorax’. Every thing he assured us that we will contend with from time to time. Still, your bread & butter is going to be those COPD Patients who have been smoking cigarettes for most of their lives.

He was so incredibly cynical, but his dry humor was for me quite engaging. I knew that he did not really mean to sound like an insensitive cruel son of a bitch. He was trying to make it evident about just what we would soon be contending with. He was being real.

Within months I understood the truth of his words. I have witnessed so much during my short career, but truthfully, Lung Cancer is barely a blip on the radar. It is the other issues related to people willfully inhaling foul things into their lungs. When, I see people smoking, I just think about job security. People going to self destruct, and they will require help, and that is an absolute truism.
