I happened to look at the comments on the local alphabet Netwerk Facebook pages as they posted articles about the Russian invasion.
It boils down to about two different perspectives. The first is that we need to put boots on the ground, launch a missile strikes, blockade ports, etc. Basically Put the US military on the ground and escalate it. The second one, of course, is to blame Trump because he called Putin a smart guy or something to that effect and say if you don’t rally behind Biden you’re a Putin supporter. These leftists are generally stupid

Ain’t that the truth. A year of Biden brings runaway inflation, gulags for protesters, skyrocketing energy prices about to go higher, humiliation in Afghanistan, and now a pretty major war that has a minor but real chance of going nuclear.
But no mean tweets.

[I seriously doubt it. Look, if he wants to throw the whole weight against Poland, probably they could win, but the price would be very very high. ]
The economic price would be high. But the military price? Poland is a pale shadow of its Warsaw Pact strength. It twiddled its thumbs while Russia was building up, and threw its buffer state, Ukraine, to the wolves, just as it was about to become a strong and a friendly country, thanks to potential EU accession. What Poland has coming from Russia, it fully deserves. Say hello to the second iteration of Katyn.

Reports say #Poland is asking for consultations according to article 4 of #NATO treaty. Article 4: when member state fears for its independence or securityFor the month of February, Russia is presiding over the UN Security Council. On March 1, the rotating presidency will pass to the United Arab Emirates, then in April to the UK. As a permanent member Russia can veto any UNSC action, but until next Tuesday it will also control the debate. By that time, the Monroeski Doctrine will be fait accompli. Nice timing.

Wonder how that Obama Biden donor who lobbied for a huge loan to start luxury car dealerships in Ukraine feels about his buddy Brandon now?

Things I’m seeing in Russian media:
This is being called “the Operation for the Denazification of Ukraine”
The Russians claim they have destroyed the Ukrainian navy and the Ukrainian air force.
They claim the Kulbakino military airfield where the Turkish drones were based has been destroyed.
They claim a significant part of Ukrainian arsenals have been destroyed by Russian precision weapons.
Putin called on the Ukrainian army to surrender. He promised a pardon to any soldier who lays down his arms. He said he holds the government of Ukraine responsible for all bloodshed.
7 km long Russian column moving from Crimea towards Ukraine.

Because the Poles know the Russians very well. The Russians really are scumbags and have been since 1917.

Putin said he is going to put the people responsible for the genocide that's been taking place there for the last 8 years on trial. I see the refugees streaming across the border there back him up on the matter. I am still waiting for Scott Ritter's video to be posted so people can get a little truth.
After hearing all of that, I fault Putin for not acting sooner.

If the Russkies touch Lviv, Poland will go in. They dropped bombs 80km from the Polish border.

Spare us the histrionics. Putin will *not* blow his own head off. As long as it stays conventional, Putin can keep his family alive, even if he loses. If it goes nuclear, he is committing not just personal, but national suicide. He’s in this to add “the Great” to his name, alongside Peter and Catherine. Handing a flattened and depopulated Russia over to China as its newest province doesn’t quite accomplish that.

So, Russia didn’t want a NATO state right at its border and what does it do? Takes over Ukraine and then it will have NATO states right next to them instead of having Ukraine as a buffer.

I don’t see it as annexation. I still believe the goal here is to negotiate Ukraine never being allowed to join NATO.
And frankly he probably could have gotten it, but he just may have blown it here.
