SUMMERVILLE, SC — Donald Trump, furious at sharp criticism from the Republican representing South Carolina’s 1st congressional district, has endorsed Katie Arrington in hopes of ridding the party of a libertarian-leaning member who was one of the few dissenting voices regarding Trump’s fitness. lead.
The year was 2018. The congressman was Mark Sanford, who had become increasingly critical of Trump for his conduct in office. Arrington, then a state representative, was backed in hopes of unseating Sanford. She did so in the June primary, only to lose the election in the fall.
The dynamic seems to be repeating itself four years later.
Rep. Nancy Mace, RS.C., ousted the Democrat to win the seat and continued to anger the former president, criticizing his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Trump again endorsed Arrington to rid the House of another critic in the competitive suburban neighborhood around Charleston.
“He’s doing it again, because he doesn’t care,” said former Rep. Barbara Comstock, R-Va., an anti-Trump Republican. “He didn’t care about losing that seat. He came to the conference and gloated about it because he didn’t care about winning the general election, he just cared about getting revenge. And now he’s doing it again.”
But that may be where the similarities between 2018 and now end, according to interviews with candidates, supporters and strategists after the race in South Carolina.
Sanford, who had his own complicated political past, was part of the pre-Trump era of the Republican Party;

She's a bitter RINO hag.
The lamestream media wants to talk about how Dems are in trouble in the MidTerms. I want a tidal wave that sees the RINO scum ousted in the primaries.
Flipping seats from D to R is nice, but it should not be our main focus. If the traitors with an (R) after their name in the state legislatures had protected voter ID and chain of custody while preventing the cheat-by-mail-in ballots and dropboxes coming into existence, then Trump would still be president and we would also have a majority in the Senate. But they didn't, and they are the reason for the woke clown world we must now endure.
The letter after the name means jack anymore.
The only reason parties still exist is to give voters the illusion of choice.
A pol is either loyal to our former republic or to Deep State.
Comstock is Deep State.
Sanford is Deep State, too.
No, Trump IS ousting Mace, not just “trying.”
Tom Rice in South Carolina’s CD-7 is also a Trump-hating RINO squish.
But he doesn’t yet have any viable primary opponent like Arrington as far as I know, and the filing deadline is just 9 days away.
I’ll be visiting family in the center of SC soon. I think the local politics there tend to lean Trump.
But this RINO faction appears to be localized around Charleston. Is Charleston a blue enclave in SC? Just curious.
Comstock was my Congressman when I lived in NoVA and Mace is my Congressman now. Both are RINOs. Mace blamed J6 on Trump and voted with the Dems to refer Bannon to DOJ for criminal charges because he did not cooperate with the illegal J6 committee. Mace must go. Arrington is an America First candidate.
Out the RINOS!

Redistricting this year has made SC-1 more Rep. Includes part of Charleston and Beaufort County. Hilton Head Island, where I live, is part of the district.
TY. Glad to hear SC-1 is leaning more red, as long as it’s not a RINO shade of red.
I live in the Greenville, SC area. I get the feeling that the urban area in Greenville is pretty much like any urban area...lots of libs. You get outside of that, it’s mostly Trump territory.
For the record, I’m new to the area. Most of the folks I’ve talked to who have relocated here are conservative. I’m hoping it remains that way as this area grows.
JMHO: Nancy Mace is a FREAK.
DOMINION will decide who's elected/ejected in SC...
Biden won’t get 40% next time.
She is pretty. But she is NOT a star in South Carolina. There is little difference between her and the Democrat she replaced. We had high hopes, she failed. Trump is very correct tarnishing this (so-called) “star.”
Arrington was a clear favorite last time before the accident. I think the democrats really like Mace though
