Jurors on Friday found police used excessive force against protesters, violating their constitutional rights, during demonstrations over the killing of George Floyd two years ago, ordering the city to pay a total of $14 million in damages to a group of 12 who sued.
The jury of two men and six women, largely white and drawn from around Colorado, returned its verdict after about four hours of deliberations. The verdict followed three weeks of testimony and evidence that included police and protester video of incidents.
Lawyers involved believed it was the first trial in a lawsuit challenging officer tactics during the 2020 protests that erupted around the nation over the police killing of Floyd and other Black people.
The protesters who sued were shot at or hit by everything from pepper spray to a Kevlar-bag filled with lead shot fired from a shotgun. Zach Packard, who was hit in the head by the shotgun blast and ended up in the intensive care unit, received the largest damage amount — $3 million.

This was a jury trial? I think this is ample evidence that justice cannot be obtained from our currant system. Arsonists, thugs, and paid rioters sue for and receive millions, and people who go to Washington to petition their representatives and are welcomed in by police are sitting in jail without charge. Forget the legal system, forget the electoral system. It’s time to dust off ol’ Betsy.

It all depends on which side you are on. America haters get anything they want without having to work for it.

When the law treats groups of people differently the group that is disadvantaged will no longer abide by the law. Why should they? The law is not protecting them and is rewarding those who would do them harm so why abide by the rules? Antifa/BLM protesters get awarded millions while J6 protesters languish in the Gulag on the Potomac in solitary for over a year (and counting) without ever being charged.
If the law can actually punish people for defending themselves while letting criminals get with, at the most, a slap on the wrist then people will take the law into their own hands. Again, why shouldn't they? If the legal system won't protect them them then they will protect themselves. History is full of examples of this.
I could go on and on but the bottom line is we have started down a very dark and dangerous path and a peaceful resolution is becoming less and less likely.
Sadly, my friend, I suspect that you may be correct! With stuff like this and watching the ball-less reps and sens in DC install a radical, racist person to the highest court, I don't see many other options!
All judgements and settlements arising out of the Judicial Branch of Government, shall be paid for through an annual assessment on the income, tips, wages and assets of Judicial Officers and Officers of the Court.
I believe it was in Denver where a activist outright killed a guy and won his court case and was set free.
This is Colorado, especially Denver.
Denver cops are notable cash cows for the organized Left. This has been the case for a very long time. Every couple of years some Denver cops will beat on left-wing protesters, who will subsequently file suit and be enriched thereby.
A private detective I hired many years ago in an effort to resolve or at least learn about a neighbor problem in my Denver neighborhood told me this, and I believe it to be true today:
“Everyone involved in police work knows that Denver cops are some of the most poorly-educated, poorly-trained, union-following cops in the USA. The hiring standards are very low - in a lot of places they require cops to have college degrees, military training, etc - not in Denver!”
This was a long time ago and I always like to think things have changed. But they haven’t, except that they are getting worse.
Do some research; you’ll find that every couple of years some left-wing activist or group of activists is filing suit against the Denver police. They usually win. KA-CHING, BABY.
why don’t those who took part in the “Back the Blue” rally in Denver should also sue the city? They were attacked by Antifa and Black Lies Matter while the cops stood by and did absolutely nothing, not a single attacker was even arrested.

He didn’t win his court case. A radical DA dropped the charges against him, letting him walk.
Justice is dead in much of America. The system has been utterly corrupted.
In a situation where there is no functional law, every infraction carries the death penalty, administered by the intended victim.
