A Supreme Court justice’s solution to gun violence: Repeal Second Amendment
The Washington Post ^ | May 28, 2022 | Frederic J. Frommer

Four years ago, when — as now — the nation was reeling from the horror of a mass school shooting, a retired Supreme Court justice suggested a radical solution: getting rid of the Second Amendment.

John Paul Stevens issued the call after 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., in February 2018. The attack prompted hundreds of thousands to demand action the next month to end gun violence at the March for Our Lives.

In a March 27, 2018, New York Times op-ed, Stevens praised the protesters and their call for stricter gun control laws. “But the demonstrators should seek more effective and more lasting reform,” he wrote, about a year before his death at 99. “They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment.”

Stevens said the amendment was adopted out of concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the states. “Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century,” he wrote.

Repealing the 2A would not repeal our right to Arms.

Actually this talk is nonsense. The next move is to register all firearms. It'll happen eventually. Maybe not for another 20 years. But it's coming. FBI will find out who's hiding their firearms thanks to surveillance technology.

For the record, the 1st A says nothing about protest the government. It is not about protest, a mild form of stating some opinion. Citizens ‘protest’.

People, on the other hand, peacefully assemble. People create petitions. People serve their petitions to government for redress. Redress is not mere ‘protest’, it is a direct order to our elected servants to fix our grievances. Not at some nebulous time... but NOW! If these servants do not accept the petitions, then People can use the militias to do the serving for redress.

Just get 2/3 of both chambers to vote for repeal, then 3/4 of the states to go along and voila! No more 2A.

FBI could not find ALL US firearms in a hundred years!
Basic versions are stupid simple to make from common materials.
Ask the ghost of Nicolae Ceaușescu how the citizenry cobbled together sufficient arms to overthrow his regime despite his governments “Gun Control”.

In the frontier days a gunsmith could begin his trade in a new town with not much more than a file, hand drill, and raw materials.
Now we have 3D printers and cordless power tools.

Thanks. In my haste I used the word "protest" when I did mean "petition." My bad.

I have no quarrels with the rest of your post.

True. We have a lot of zealots on the other side though. There were a lot of people opposing the Bolsheviks in Russia. We all know how that turned out.

The second amendment is 100% clear.
If they want gun control, they have to get rid of it.
Let them try to get all the required supermajorities in Congress and States. Good luck with that!

The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the Hand of Divinity itself, and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.

Bet there will be a run on gun stores as people buy up all the AR-15s they can get their hot little hands on.
It happens every time the Dems broadcast what firearm is now on their “To Be Banned” list.
No one really wanted an “A-s-s-ault Rifle” in the 1970s till the Dems cast their covetous eyes in that direction in the 1980s. Suddenly AR and AK type rifles became hot sellers!

If the shooter had been left in a classroom full of kids for just 10 minutes with just a machete, he could have killed just as many in a wildly bloodier fashion.

You want to hurt a lot of people, it doesn’t take a firearm. Little xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxx, little dxxxxx xxxx, and if you want to amp it up, generate some xxxxxxx via hydrolysis and you will have no problem. Low tech.

(The x’ING out of obvious words are for the benefit of the agencies who regularly watch this forum because I don’t want anybody saying I posted instructions on how to build a xxxx...)

It would be a much better idea to demobilize all of the line units of the armed forces and revert them to state control. Save a heap of money too.

We will not comply.
Your cops are so bad they can’t even save
some kids in a school and you think you
Are going to disarm us?
You are idiots.

Essentially all in a day’s work in an abortion clinic.
