Western allies meeting regularly to game out potential framework for Ukraine ceasefire as war hits 100th day (Ukraine Gov. not invited to discussion)

US officials have in recent weeks been meeting regularly with their British and European counterparts to discuss potential frameworks for a ceasefire and for ending the war through a negotiated settlement, multiple sources familiar with the talks told CNN.

Ukraine is not directly involved in those discussions, despite the US commitment to “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”

In April, the US’ stated goal was for Russia to “fail,” a National Security Council spokesperson said at the time, and for the Russian military to be significantly “weakened” in the long term, as Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin proclaimed – comments that reflected optimism that Ukraine might be able to defeat Russia decisively on the battlefield after successfully defending Kyiv.

But as an effective stalemate has taken hold on the battlefield, with Russia making incremental gains in the east and Ukraine saying it is increasingly outgunned and outmanned, senior Western officials – including US President Joe Biden – are emphasizing anew that even with advanced western weaponry, Ukraine’s prospects for peace will ultimately rest on diplomacy.

“What we do know is that almost all wars end at some stage at the negotiating table.”

For now, that effective stalemate presents an opportunity for the US to slowly bleed Russia of both blood and treasure, multiple military officials said. But the longer the conflict drags on, the higher the costs for the West – and the greater the challenge the Biden administration will face in supplying Ukraine, finding sustainable replacements for Russian oil and gas, and keeping an already-fractious European alliance committed to its strategy.

The issue is particularly politically fraught heading into election season, with gas prices continuing to rise largely because of the measures the west has taken to cut off imports of Russian oil and gas.

This would be like the Munich conference where the UK and France gave Czech lands to the Nazis in the hope of preventing world war 2.

That didn’t work.

This is more and more proof that the Russian government of today are really Nazis.

1. End all of the sanctions and ensure the free flow of fuel, fertilizer, and food.

2. Have Ukraine cede Crimea to Russia.

3. Have Russia cede Odessa to Ukraine.

4. Limit all hostilities to Donbas and Mariupol, substantially reducing the geographical scope of the war, and pledge to work towards cessation of hostilities in those areas too.

I’m defending the nation fighting against an aggressive invader.

Why are you supporting the Nazis ie Putin’s troops?

Odessa is de facto and de jure part of Ukraine. Nothing for Russia to cede.

It would be like you saying Mexico should cede Boise Idaho....

"That framework involves Ukraine committing to neutrality with regard to NATO in exchange for some security guarantees, and negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on the future of Crimea and the Donbas region."

I fail to see how repeating the last 30 years of security guarantees and negotiations that led up to the invasion is a solution. Ignoring Ukraine, Putin made his intentions clear on December 17. He wants a new USSR. Former Soviet states are choosing to stand together in Ukraine instead of falling to Russia one by one.

Ukraine is a puppet.

One of the Russian officials was talking to the BBC and said the negotiations would be held between Russia and the west. “Not Ukraine?” the reporter sniffed. “Well, they can be at the negotiations. But you know, everyone knows, they are only a puppet” the official responded.

Activists of the Orange Revolution were funded and trained in tactics of political organisation and nonviolent resistance by Western pollsters and professional consultants who were partly funded by Western government and non-government agencies but received most of their funding from domestic sources. [2] [150] According to The Guardian, the foreign donors included the U.S. State Department and USAID along with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the International Republican Institute, the NGO Freedom House and George Soros's Open Society Institute. [151] The National Endowment for Democracy has supported democracy-building efforts in Ukraine since 1988.

Ukraine has been a slush fund and pet project of US pols and Soros since they gained their independence. Practice grounds for color revolutions like the one we're going through right now. Activists in the streets, questionable elections, corruption, political enemies etc.

Once upon a time, all of Western media was in agreement on nazis in Ukraine

Over the years many 'western' media have correctly reported on the Ukrainian fascists. Here is an incomplete collection (h/t Antispin):

Next to those and many more media reports there are some detailed ones from various organization which document the war crimes Azov and groups like it have committed in Ukraine. In 2015 the Foundation for the Study of Democracy published a report about the War crimes of the armed forces and security forces of Ukraine: torture and inhumane treatment. In 2018 the Human Rights Platform "Uspishna Varta" wrote in a report about the Ministry of Internal Affairs and General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine:

That was in 2014 when Russia invaded Ukraine.

In 2015 the Azov battalion removed its neo nazi element and became part of the wider group resisting Putin’s conquest of the DPR and lpr

Putin pretends they are a puppet as he thinks he can convince the west to let him grab Ukraine.

Just like Hitler with the Sudeten

Not to mention Biden's active attempts to destroy U.S. oil production. Leave it to CNN to provide cover.

And they point out that after 2015 it changed.

Furthermore, these are 900 odd militia out of hundreds of thousands.

I guess you also call the USA as supporting nazis due yo the Aryan brotherhood?

The BBC news article. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/ukraine-has-nazi-problem-vladimir-putin-s-denazification-claim-war-ncna1290946

Highlights svoboda as a threat.

How many seats does it hold in the Ukrainian parliament?

ONE.

One seat out of 450 in parliament is held by this far right group.

Do you think they have a massive political pull?

So Biden lied all along and was never hoping to help Ukraine repel Putin at all. It was just a horrible charade, pretending to do what it was not doing??? If so, that carnage engineered with a wink and nod from the west is far worse a failure than the exit from Afghanistan.
