On Monday, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) said he was “cautiously” optimistic about getting “common sense” gun legislation passed to prevent future mass shootings.
Toomey acknowledged on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom” that there was no way to stop every mass killing, but he said he wanted to “make it more difficult” for the mentally ill and dangerous criminals to obtain a weapon to go forward with a deadly attack.

The second amendment protects gun rights. There can be NO bill or law that protects gun rights. Any such bill or law is designed to infringe gun rights...which is made illegal by the second amendment to The Constitution of The United States of America. Q.E.D.

How can they define ‘mentally ill’, or ‘dangerous criminal’?
This is yet another “common stench” bill regarding the infringement of the Second Amendment? Because the Democrat Socialists are notorious for failing to offer any other kind.
Nothing in any of the innumerable bills they have offered does a thing to prevent mass shootings, or addresses the real problems. The wrong people obtain guns through nefarious means, and they use them in totally inappropriate fashion, as a force multiplier in the perpetuation of a crime. Even if the gun is not fired, the THREAT it could be used is sufficient to compel victims to surrender their valuables or submit to less than lethal abuse.
Who are the wrong people? Certainly not an NRA member, who is aware of the responsibility of the right to keep and bear arms, nor of the many millions of other individuals who recognize this is not a nice world, and that there are threats to person and property, that the law enforcement officers of this country have no obligation to watch over on a 24/7/365 basis, for which they must protect by their own efforts.
There are predators of every kind out there, waiting for the first opportunity to practice their mischief on those they consider victims. They need not be armed with firearms, as any number of devices can be used as weapons of force, from a brick to a pickup truck, from shovels and hammers to knives and clubs. If the prospective victim is carrying a sidearm, the equation changes very quickly. After that is settled, then you call for law enforcement. When seconds count, it can take law enforcement minutes to arrive.

The only reason they want universal background checks is so they can maintain a database of every gun owner in the country.
