My retirement plan includes learning to enjoy the taste of cat food and/or dying quickly.
Yes it is.
Retirement has always been a relatively fake promise from politicians, when they promised retirement at a time when most people didn’t live long enough to retire.
It’s only relatively recent have people been living long enough to enjoy golden years and we are finding it too expensive to maintain.
On the plus side, jobs have become relatively enjoyable enough that it’s not the worst burden in the world to work in your senior years.
I see people living in their cars.
Well, someone has to prop up their Government Universal Health Care System. Might as well be the old people who are getting denied hip replacements and chemo.
Defined Contribution Plans saved American Business, but killed the Retirement Dream.
I’m planning on retiring at the end of this year.
We’ll see what happens.
The Great Reset. You will work until you die and be happy.
Brandon’s destruction will take years to make up. When your 401k drops 50%, you need 100% of returns to get back to even.
I’m retired. I took all the necessary steps to make sure I’d have the means to do it. Now numbnutz stole the presidency and is screwing up the economy so royally I have no idea what this rest of his I’ll gotten presidency will bring.
I retired 2 years ago at 70. I’m bored out of my mind.
People over 65 are having trouble turning down the money. I know several people who kept returning to work because they were bored (my father was one). My college GF couldn’t retire because she never put money into retirement. She used that money to put her kid through decades of school.
Propaganda to get people back into the workforce after so many have left in the last two years.
I’m doing fine working just part-time right now.
I’m trying to figure out what I’ll do when I retire. I’m in my 70’s and plan to go into retirement at the end of the year. But I don’t know what I’ll do with my time.
I think my wife has plans for me.
Some would say we’re looking at the end of life as we know it. The government, managed by a hive mind of Sandy Cortezes will look after you until its time for carrousel.
Given that:
- people live a lot longer than they used to
- people stopped having nearly as many kids several decades ago
we now have far fewer workers paying into the system per retiree. Something’s gotta give. Either they dramatically raise taxes (probably not politically feasible) or they slash benefits (they’re doing that by stealth via inflation).
Probably the least painful means of closing the massive funding gap is to push back retirement at least a few more years. If we were to push it back to say, 70. That would go a long way toward closing that gap.
Another factor is that people were never intended to live on their social security check and many have not put away nearly enough money to supplement their social security check such that they could live comfortably in retirement.
As for me I’m 52 and my goal is to work until I literally drop dead. I never want to retire. I actually enjoy work and I enjoy getting a paycheck.
Arbeit Macht Frei
I believe that retirement is unbiblical.
I may have to go back to work to pay property taxes....
its insane....you can't even have your dream home with a shop and a garden and flowers and trees and birds singing ....
With taxes, medical care, food, fuel, and damn near everything else priced through the roof it’s going to be tough to retire when I want. On top of that the fckn U.S. government keeps moving the goalposts so the average Joe can NEVER get ahead.
Instead, we get to pay for millions of ILLEGALS and deadbeats!
FU JOE BIDEN AND FU DEMOCRATS AND FU RINOS!
I admit as a Gen Xer, it has been very noticeable and helpful to me that a lot of Baby Boomers retired early when Covid started. I have nothing against those people, but the truth is there was a huge overhang of people who were about 10 years older than I am and I was never going to be able to match their experience. Its awfully nice being more free of that burden for the first time in my career. The job market has been better than ever for me in the last year or two. I hope they can all stay retired.
