Florida Sheriff Chip Simmons says a homeowner will “absolutely not” face charges after firing an “AK-47-style gun” at suspected home invaders.
Three men, including one armed with a gun, entered a home in Escambia County around midnight. “He started shooting for his own protection, to get them out of his house and to protect himself,” the sheriff said.
The homeowner pulled out a handgun from his waistband, but dropped the firearm. One of the suspects picked up the gun.
Then the homeowner was able to retrieve his “AK-47-style gun” and fired at the suspects before they fled.
One of the suspects suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound to the head. Authorities have identified two of the suspects as Antonio DeWayne Dean Jr., 18, and Da’Torrance Leanders Hackworth, 20.
“We get a report of a third individual that had a wound to the head not long after [the home invasion]. The stories he’s giving us as to how he got shot in the head are inconsistent at best. In short, we don’t believe him. So what we’re looking at is to determine whether this is the third person that was involved,” Simmons said.

If all you have is an Ak-47 you should be obligated/required to let the perp do what they want with you.

My concern with the AK-47 (or variant), is that if you are
in a tight neighborhood, it’s too much weapon.
I wouldn’t want to kill one of my neighbors.
A shotgun or a handgun would be better > IMO.
I have no problem with the AK-47 other than that. If the
circumstances warrant, then by all means use it.

And for those thinking that birdshot is a good home defense round, below is a video of a guy with a shotgun shooting a girl from 10 feet or so square in the chest. She walked away and survived. (She did require surgery in her arm).
Also note the hero hall monitor student (with illegal pepper spray) that took down the gunman. The first student that was shot (outside) was killed. The killer sneaked up behind the student and put the barrel at the base of his skull. Several other students were also wounded outside but nothing serious.

An AK-47 variant with 7.62X39mm rounds should have devastated the intruders. The judge should order him to spend more time at the range.
This is true. I’d hope it’s possible to follow planned firing trajectories but a battle plan rarely survives first contact.
